Description

This remains RootsMagic’s major shortcoming. The central Media index makes your images easy to browse, link to multiple elements (including people, places, sources and events), and furnish with extra descriptive details like dates and captions. However, there are no editing tools and no means of extracting headshots. RootsMagic 9 adds a personal media view to a person’s edit screen, but that’s it. A missed opportunity.

Fonts and text styles (bold, italic, underline and strike-out), text and highlight colouring, paragraph styles (bullets, indentation, alignment). One last thing about pricing: if you want to install Family Historian 7 on multiple computers (for example, in a school or library), you can get money off. Basically, the more installations you have, the less it'll cost. Should you buy Family Historian 7? Family Historian offers publishing tools to support most people’s needs – a mind-boggling array of charts, infinitely customisable, accompanied by 40 reports, along with a book-publishing tool that lets you combine these with your own custom-written content. Added support for formatting means your reports and books will look better than ever.RootsMagic 9 features the exact same user interface as its immediate predecessor. That means if you’ve taken the time to relearn RootsMagic 8’s overhauled navigation, you’ll have no problems adapting to version 9. Legacy is starting to look really dated, but it’s still reasonably logical, with its many tools laid out in a multi-tabbed ribbon across the top of the screen. There’s also a handy customisable My Toolbar option that allows you to put the most frequently accessed tools within easy reach. The main screen gives you five ways to view the currently selected person, including a Timeline view that can help you spot gaps in your research. However, adding or editing information involves opening one or more pop-up windows, some of which are quite cluttered and confusing to navigate (editing individuals is a case in point). Fonts and text styles (bold, italic, underline and strike-out), text and highlight colouring, paragraph styles (bullets, indentation, alignment) Tables. These are useful in many contexts, and are used extensively in the new handling for Text from Source in source records and source citations, and with the new support for Research Notes (see below).

I want to be able to set the ‘Living’ flag on everyone who is still alive. What is the best way to do this? Improvements to the Property Box (main data entry window), to make it even easier to use, especially when space is limited. Reports can be viewed in the redesigned Report Window. This feature also supports a bibliography to document your sources. Reports available in Family Historian 7 include the Calendar, the Individual Scrapbook and Timeline, Research Notes, and Sources and Citations. You can also generate detailed reports on specific records. Historical Maps If you have any version earlier than 6.2.5, please upgrade to the latest version from Latest Free Upgrade Version 5: When I try to edit a date it gets messed upProject-level fact definitions. Fact definitions specify how information is presented in reports and books. Now fact definitions can optionally be stored as part of a project, so you can be sure that if you give family members a copy of your project, any reports or books that they generate from the data will look the same. New export options. These have been added to accommodate all the new features, so that other applications which do not support Family Historian features, can still import the essential data – especially in relation to word processing features and source template field values. The Family Historian User Group ( www.fhug.org.uk) has a long-standing Wish List, and the most-requested features on this list, by some margin, are word processing features. All notes and Text from Source fields now support the following word processing features: Heredis offers several charts, each of which comes with multiple variations and styles. The major highlight of Heredis 2024 is a brand-new Family Chronology chart, which allows you to view a selected person’s family as a series of timelines, making it possible to see which family members’ lives overlapped with each other. Heredis 2024 also adds a mixed ancestor and descendant wheel to its list of charts and reports.
