Wranglers are a subset of cowboys who focus on taking care of the horses and mules used to herd cattle. Some cowboys also do work for or participate in rodeos outside of the ranch. Despite a less well-documented historical role, modern-day cowgirls continue to perform the same jobs as their 19th-century counterparts and enjoy high levels of respect as a result of their efforts. The cowboy's work is similar to that of cattle handlers in many other parts of the world, especially in South America and Australia.
