This book felt extremely masochistic to read. Almost the entire book was some form of hyperbolic suffering (to the extent it made ME depressed). I feel like she was going for a celaena in Heir of fire suffering montage, but the difference in that writing was that it was actually tasteful… this just felt like torture porn. Ultimately, the lesson you take away from a novel will depend on your own interpretation and the specific book you read. However, the act of reading itself can promote critical thinking, empathy, and personal growth, which can have a positive impact on your life beyond the lessons of any one particular novel.

Speaking of love interests, this is definitely a slow burn, and by that I mean nothing actually happens between Aran (Arabella) and Corvus, Scorpius and Orion in this book (and clearly nothing happened between Aran (Arabella) and Demetre, Noah and Shane since they are all the way dead).
