About this deal

Seiko is a business. It’s actually, like… a really BIG business. Thus, it makes sense that Seiko makes big-business decisions. At the end of the day, big-business decisions consider only the bottom line. Although the game is sometimes long, and sometimes short, it’s always played to increase the figure at the bottom. So, when Seiko announced that it was (finally) discontinuing the beloved SKX, it should not have surprised anyone that it would do something to fill the void. It’s our fault, not Seiko’s, that we fully expected Seiko to replace the SKX with yet another Cinderella loss-leader. At first glance, you might say this handset is carried over from the SKX/5KX. That’s only 2/3 of the way true. The hour and second hand have been carried over, but Seiko has made a change to the minute hand. The minute hand appears to be slightly longer, reaching out toward the end of the dial and has a slightly different arrow shape at its tip. I've enjoyed wearing this so much that I even took it on a two week trip to Puerto Rico and ended up wearing it as much as my SLA057. Ironically enough, it even came snorkeling with me more than the SLA did. Because it has 100m of WR, it was the perfect little companion for jungle and beach hikes and even for those times where I'm doing things like jumping off a pier and swimming with sea turtles! You see, I’ve always tended toward cleaner watches, even with my divers (like my Mido Ocean Star and Omega SMP 2254.50, the latter which I’ve described as a ‘dress diver’). So how could I have been so surprised when the new, fixed-bezel Seiko 5 SRPE51 came along? How did I not anticipate the love?

The lug-to-lug distance is comparable to the SKX/5KX at 44mm. Even though that dimension hasn’t changed much, the wearer wouldn’t notice too much of a difference because the SKX/5KX case had a relatively short lug-to-lug to begin with. The crown guards have been carried over and have always been one of my favorite things about the SKX case. The bottom crown guard has a little swoop to it that adds some flair. The Seiko 5 SRPE55K1is presented on a Rolex Oyster-style three-link bracelet that looks sporty yet elegant. The bracelet goes very well with the design of the watch. When comparing the SRPE to the SKX however, the difference is glaringly obvious - most of the Seiko SKX mod parts are not cross-compatible. When purchasing a watch which has a metal bracelet with adjustable links, we will gladly adjust the watch bracelet to fit your wrist before sending the watch to you - free of charge!Thankfully Seiko decided to give the SRPE55 100 meters of water resistance. This made me feel comfortable doing just about anything with it. I had no issues getting it wet or submerging it in water. The beefy crown guards made me feel secure enough to not have to worry about the crown popping out accidentally. This is generally a very simple procedure. We can do this for you, or you can get the watch adjusted locally. Option 1. Specify your wrist measurement and we will adjust it before being sent The applied markers are simple yet slightly decorative at 12, 6, and 9. Those familiar with Seiko divers like the SKX will recognize their shape immediately. The triangle with an elongated point at 12 and the two elongated circles at 6 and 9 allow for instant orientation and add a touch of flair to the dial. As one would expect on any Seiko 5, a day/date complication is present at 3.

For women, dainty, fuss-free designs in silver sit alongside more striking pieces, featuring two-tone steel and gold, as well as sparkling diamond finishes that befit their iconic logo. These watches are reliable, affordable, and there are many to choose from, and now with the Uncle Seiko bracelet releases, you have more options than ever!In 2019 and 2020, Seiko announced big changes to its 5 sports lineup. Perhaps the biggest news was that its now-iconic SKX dive watch was discontinued. But to replace it, Seiko presented a new collection which a whopping 27 new models. It’s always nicer to look at a beautifully decorated movement with cotes the Geneve, pelage, etc., but it’s important to have in mind the concept of this watch. Watches whose movements are decorated with utmost care and perfection are primarily found in dress watches which are meant to be pieces of art. But the Seiko 5 SRPE55K1is not built as a piece of art, but rather as an everyday tool watch. In terms of moddability, the SRPE Seiko 5 Sports watch is still very much in the discovery phase. People are just starting to experiment with it as a modding base, and not a lot of suppliers offer parts for the as of yet. After being initially smitten by the new Seiko 5 Sport, I went through a brief period where I felt conflicted: How could I lust after a watch that seemed so simple, and worse yet, already had legions of lookalikes?

A basic model of an athlete’s response to training can be estimated from data collected as part of the TL monitoring process [ 1, 5]. Specifically, the difference between “fitness” (positive) and “fatigue” (negative) functions can be quantified with internal or external TL variables as training impulse [ 1, 5]. The genesis of this basic TL model stems from the work of Bannister [ 5]. A recent simplified extension of this work has been the development of the acute to chronic workload ratio (ACWR) [ 12– 14]. TL monitoring and in particular the ACWR has been readily adopted (especially in open skill sports) to inform training practices to minimize the likelihood of injury [ 1]. The ACWR has also been used as a tool to systematically progress injured athletes’ rehabilitation and to quantify acceptable levels of injury risk prior to an athlete returning to competition [ 14, 15]. The research on the ACWR suggests values above or below ~0.8–1.3 are associated with an increased risk of injury [ 12– 14]. However, the level of evidence for this recommendation is not yet well developed and it is typically not advocated that practitioners completely avoid ranges outside ~0.8–1.3. These ranges may be practically impossible or undesired in certain situations like early rehabilitation and tapering. Practitioners should instead be cognizant that a higher injury risk may be present and combine this with other factors to make decisions.

Eventually though, I came to my senses. Stop thinking, and just enjoy a damn good watch. More important than the fact that this watch might look like some other watches is the fact that it offers a viable alternative to the Apple Watch for the mechanical-watch curious. When people ask “what should I buy instead of an Apple Watch (or MVMT)?” I can finally give an answer I’m pretty sure they’ll immediately get.
