Born in Boston, Wood grew up surrounded by the art collection of his grandfather, featuring the work of artists such as Francis Bacon, Alexander Calder, Jim Dine, Robert Motherwell, Larry Rivers, and Andy Warhol. He received a BA from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Geneva, New York, in 1999, majoring in psychology and minoring in studio art, then attended the University of Washington, Seattle, where he received an MFA in painting and drawing in 2002. During his student years, he explored making collage-like works based on montaged photographs that he took of himself, his friends, and their surroundings. Jonathan Wood (baritone) has been singing since he joined the choir of Holy Trinity Church, Cookham, at the age of six. In July, 2003, he will be taking his Associated Board LRSM examination to build on the Dip. ABRSM gained in 1998. Currently studying singing with Edward Brooks at the Royal Academy of Music, he still sings in the Cookham Church choir today, helping to coach the trebles on a regular basis. Opportunities for solo work arise from this association and already Jonathan is accredited with performances in Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and Fauré’s Requiem as well as the standard church choir repertoire of Stainer’s Crucifixion and Maunder’s Olivet to Calvary.
