About this deal

Recognising the growing popularity of the Sony A-series, Sigma announced their own lens adapter earlier this year, the snappily titled Global Vision MC-11 Lens Mount Converter, which ostensibly supports 16 Sigma Canon Mount (EF) and Sigma Mount (SA) lenses ( current list here). Going one better than the Metabones adapter, the MC-11 also promises to support the full range of Sony AF modes, including Eye-AF. Using continuous shooting with intervals allowed me to get sharp shots of the bikers exiting the corner.

But I have passed down a test exercise with four different brands of electronic adapters over two mount systems and would like to see if the MC-11 might work where the MC-21 is not compatible. Obviously if I was returning to Sony FE I would not be impressed with the MC-11 either. Surely only those who buy exclusively Sigma EF mount lenses would buy an “MC”? Just one Canon or other brand EF lens and it may of may not be a “bonus lens” and you should have bought another adapter which will work all the Sigma EF lenses and give you a much wider range of bonuses. That is about where I am coming from. Fixed a problem in which the MF assist function would not work in rare cases when a lens with the MF switching function (Manual Override) enabled, or a lens with the focus mode switch set to MO was attached.I already shared my experience for birds in flight ( read the Red Kites article here) where I got an overall 50% keeper rate with the A7r II and 60% with the a6300, which I consider quite good. A6300, 1/2000, f/8, ISO 800 – 150-600mm Contemporary So, that's the innocent explanation of why the MC-11 does not have such good support for Canon EF lenses, but what about differences between the MC-11 and MC-21? Perhaps the origin here is the difference between translating E-to-EF and L-to-EF? Perhaps E has better facilities for adapted DSLR lenses, as it was designed to accommodate Sony's adapters to A lenses? Perhaps that means that the MC-11 is more forgiving of unsupported Canon lenses than the MC-21?

If you are the type of shooter who wanted form to equal function then the MC-11 converter will not disappoint. but what about differences between the MC-11 and MC-21? Perhaps the origin here is the difference between translating E-to-EF and L-to-EF? Perhaps E has better facilities for adapted DSLR lenses, as it was designed to accommodate Sony's adapters to A lenses? Perhaps that means that the MC-11 is more forgiving of unsupported Canon lenses than the MC-21? The new MOUNT CONVERTER MC-11 allows you to use your SIGMA SA-mount and SIGMA EOS-mount interchangeable lenses with the Sony E-mount camera body. MOUNT CONVERTER MC-11 is ideal for professional photographers who use different camera systems depending on the subject, as well as amateur photographers who enjoy using a variety of camera systems. Increasing the compatibility of lenses with different camera systems makes these assets more valuable than ever. In addition, users of Sony E-mount camera bodies will enjoy an immediate increase in the number of lenses available to them I have been puzzled by comments that the MC-11 has worked very well with EF lenses in general and I would have liked to know if it were more widely compatible with non Sigma EF mount lenses than the MC-21 was. For if it is as short on bonus lenses as the MC-21 is then it would only work on a relatively few “modern” Canon EF lenses. In my test of twenty Canon EF lenses on L-Mount it only supported 11 of them and two of them were MF lenses therefore for AF purposes the bonus was 9/18 or 50%.

Final Impressions

I'm not comparing to "most other adapters". I'm comparing to the Metabones adapter. Can you point to anyone who has done a comparison of the two and concluded that the Sigma adapter has wider and better compatibility than the Metabones adapter? There are no optics inside the MC-11, it’s designed to extend the flange depth so the Canon lens is the correct distance from the sensor – it extends the optical arrangement by 2.5cm. It also conveys the data that’s required to enable exposure control and autofocusing. This means that the MC-11 should enable the same image quality that you expect from your lenses, but bare in mind that the different sensor will have an impact. Performance
