About this deal

Catalina is a fiercely independent woman who ran away from her past but now she has to face it at her sister’s wedding where her former fiance is the best man.

It would be interesting seeing a Christian book from someone who does not plan on having kids, getting married, or having a big corporate job. And this one has kind of the same problem that the rest of the books had - there are a lot of words here and not a whole lot of anything much storywise. Here is a useful tip, should you ever find yourself face-to-face with a vampire: they are living corpses that eat people. They are not sun-sparkling, abstinent forever-teens. Staying inside all day and being forced to personally kill all of your food doesn't bode well for your mental health (not to mention the fact that you have been alive so long, you've had to re-buy all your Beatles albums in like five different formats).Unfortunately, I can't say that I was really impressed by the writing either. Somehow the story never managed to grab me completely, and the plot felt rather slow and repetitive in points. The constant mention of having to hide their secrets I previous mentioned didn't really help either... And if I have to read the word tabula rasa one more time, I think that I'm going to scream. The final twist did come as a surprise at least, because I never guessed who would be behind it all. Thank you to bookish and the publisher for sending me this free copy of The Sunshine Mind. I was pleasantly surprised to get a hardcover, The book is so beautiful. Rae "Sunshine" Seddon: A young woman who works as the baker at a coffee shop called Charlie's Coffeehouse. Born Raven Blaise. Her father, whom her mother left when Sunshine was small, was part of a powerful magic-wielding family. The tone rarely rises above the gossipy. It's like reading the script of a drama about strippers that hooks its viewers by having beautiful almost naked women in every shot. All the girls are clique-y and there are certain protocols to be observed in each club to get into the cool girls clique, not that anyone stays more than a few months anywhere. Everyone parties, everyone gets drunk almost every night, everyone does cocaine and everyone enjoys what they are doing. As the author says she is lazy and likes a lot of money, and this job pays very well and enables her to live well, hang around the pool, go to the spa, get plastic surgery and go shopping. It really sounds like made-for-tv.

As they begin to discuss the evidence Moira has witnessed at the crime scene, they come to the conclusion that not only do the police not want any outside help but have missed important clues. They decide that as a group they will secretly investigate the death and if they find out anything then they will bring it to the police. To me, you choose to be either a stripper or a sex worker, and there’s no grey area. If you perform any kind of sexual act with a man for money, you’re no longer an exotic dancer because you have crossed that line." But while it was fascinating in places, the book seemed to be almost a long information dump. If this was the first in a series, this would make more sense, but Sunshine is a stand- alone. It was frustrating to me that we did not learn more about Constantine. He is alien, aloof, cold, as one might expect from a vampire and yet hard to get a handle on.Mel: The chef at Charlie's and Sunshine's boyfriend. He has a mysterious past about which much is implied, but nothing explained. He is heavily tattooed with wards, which can be dangerous, and used to be part of a motorcycle gang. He and Sunshine have a comfortable "don't ask-don't tell" policy. I actually wanted to read this after I saw this author on TV. I thought she was witty and bold, as not many people would talk/write about their lives stripped bare - especially one lived naked. Thus, I like the character development of Sunny. It seemed to be a true reflection of reality, not exaggerated. I needed that! I needed this whole book. If you are finding your way with god, needing some guidance, or maybe you’ve been a believer for a really long time, I recommend this book. I already know I’m buying a copy for my mother in law.
