But admittedly half of them failed, and when they succeeded, he nearly killed himself. Ahmed's Mad, Bad & Dangerous to Know has a really gripping synopsis: a budding art historian heroine spends her summer in Paris investigating the role of a mysterious woman from the Ottoman Empire who features in works by Alexandre Dumas (most notably the author of The Three Musketeers), the Romantic painter Eugène Delacroix, and the famous English poet Lord Byron. The story by large is fictional, as the woman - Leila - never existed, but Ahmed builds upon an idea I love so much: giving historical women a voice.Around the time of a potential selection event, the climate in the Southeast Asia underwent a number of dramatic fluctuations, largely altering the vegetation [ 74– 77]. Coinciding with intermittent land bridge formations, a band of drier more seasonally adapted woodland ran from north of the Malay Peninsula down as far as Java replacing the more tropical forests [ 76]. This habitat alteration may have benefitted some animals in allowing an easier migration south through the more savannah-like landscape, but for others it acted as a species isolation barrier [ 78, 79]. For Nycticebus this change in habitat to a more open savannah-like environment and a different array of predators may have provided the initial selection impetus towards mimicry. For me the whole reasoning behind things simply didn't make sense. And the fact that people paid him to do these stuff is absurd. a b "Melbourne, Viscount (I, 1781 – 1853)". cracroftspeerage.co.uk. However, once Lady Caroline had begun her affair with Byron, her mother-in-law began a long and blatant campaign to rid her son of his wife. As Lord David Cecil remarks, she had long since concluded that Caroline deserved all her misfortunes. William Lamb refused to submit and regretted that his mother had conspired against his wife with Byron. Calling Byron treacherous, William Lamb was supportive of his wife to her death. Byron responded to the novel; "I read Glenarvon too by Caro Lamb….God damn!" The book was a financial success that sold out several editions but was dismissed by critics as pulp fiction. However, Goethe deemed it worthy of serious literary consideration. [20] From March to August 1812, Lady Caroline embarked on a well-publicised affair with Lord Byron. He was 24, and she was 26. She spurned his attention on their first meeting, which was at a society event at Holland House. According to the memoirs of her friend Sydney, Lady Morgan, Lady Caroline claimed she coined the phrase "mad, bad, and dangerous to know" soon after she had met the poet. It became his lasting epitaph, but there is no contemporary evidence to prove that she coined the famous phrase at the time. [3] She wrote him a fan letter. His response was to visit her because of her high social status and then to pursue her passionately. I felt like we barely got a glimpse into what was going on with her because all of her chapters were really short and, as a result didn't really add much to the overall story, in my opinion. Her story was really intriguing to me and I wish we had gotten to see more of it.
