READ NEXT: The best patio heaters to buy The best fire pits to buy in 2023 1. Harbour Housewares Cast Iron Fire Pit: Best traditional fire pit

Portable fire pits that scored a five for design had our testing team raving about the ease of use when setting up the fire pit and taking it apart for storage. Our testers had no previous knowledge of the cost of each fire pit and were made aware of the price after testing was complete. The highest scoring fire pits for value had performances that met or exceeded our expectations and had standout qualities making them well worth the cost. At 15″ in diameter and 7″ tall, this fire pit is small but not tiny – there are certainly smaller ones. So it’s not for a big group, but indeed big enough for a couple. Tiki Low-smoke Portable Fire Pit: It took less than five minutes to setup the fire pit, and we love the unique design of the base with raised hairpin legs, but it's heavy enough that it requires two people to carry. The fire pit features a fire bowl, mesh cover, charcoal grate, cooking grill, poker, and foldable legs making this portable pit easy to carry and yet stable. Made from sturdy and durable steel, this pit can be used as a barbecue and is easy to clean and maintain.

As it’s a gas-fueled pit you won’t have to worry about smoke, cleaning up ashes or waiting for it to warm up, but you will need a propane tank. The pit comes with a 3m gas hose that should allow you to store the tank out of the way. The Outland Firebowl offers a realistic campfire experience, without the mess, or smoke of an actual fire. It is propane fueled and features a 10 ft. hose, allowing you to keep your propane tank out of sight and safely away from the fire. Hidden in Fire Safe’s minimal design are innovative and award-winning features. The corrugated insert allows airflow for more efficient fires and the frame doubles as a built-in windshield. The auto-ignition feature makes it easy to ignite and the rubber comfort-grip ensures easy usability when lighting and increasing flame height. The low profile design makes it easy to clean, tend to and assemble so it can be used straight out of the box! (attach the legs and outer rim and that’s it)

This fantastic portable fire pit is also popular with other users and has an average customer rating of 4.5 stars out of 5.

The Pop-Up Fire Pit

No Cooking Grate: This one isn’t the best for cooking. There isn’t a grill grate to cook your food. We all know that fire pits are commonplace within thousands of gardens throughout the UK but what about taking one with you when you venture a little further afield. The Campfire Chef Redwood has a flame-control dial so you can keep extra warm when sitting around the campfire, otherwise tone it down when toasting marshmallows! Since the fire pit is going to be exposed to extreme heat, you must make sure that it is made from robust materials that won’t warp from the flames. In short, the fire pit should be made from metal but the type of metals you will see will vary from product to product. If you have a large group or family to cater to you may even find that you’re better off having two smaller portable fire pits than one large one, especially if you are camping away from the car.
