Whenever the visibility of the road is decreased due to climatic conditions, fog lights help you increase that visibility. 5. Which lights do you use in fog?

The real big issue is that people should not use them at all unless there is a severe fog, only there will the dual lights show their worth. The single and the dual setup should never be used under ordinary situations, then the argument you have becomes valid. The whole purpose of fog lights is so that you can see the road on which you are travelling, with clarity. This is because we do not have a compatible climatic condition in the UK, and are sometimes prone to experiencing extreme temperatures, which also includes fog, all of which make driving extremely difficult. Front fog lights can cut through mist, fog, rain or even dust as they are mounted lower down than headlights in the front of the car. Fog lights can also be used to drive in winter, when visibility is low, which is a major winter driving tip.

CARS.COM — Driving home one night, I pulled onto the highway on a dark but clear evening behind an older Jaguar XJ sedan and was blinded by the driver’s fog lights, even though there wasn’t a bit of fog that evening. How could I tell that his fog lights were on from behind the car? Because, like so many Americans, this driver didn’t seem to understand what the fog light switch does in his fancy European luxury vehicle: Sometimes, the switch for the fog lights turns on a light in the rear. Obviously fog lights aren't needed when it's dry, and there's not much point in turning them on when it's dark, either. The lamp housings don’t have the same kind of reflectors as main beam headlights, so they are unlikely to give you any extra light to help you see where you are going. Yes, but they only work for the intended purpose - helping your car be seen in low visibility conditions. Your first question has an elusive answer, not quite found it yet myself, but after reading a lot on the topic it seems that regulations may be adopting the idea of the rear fog light, and in some states, (California and Oregon are example), having dual fog lights is legal. This whole issue may be at the state DOT level right now, which would be a problem if you drove into a state that only allowed a single for that type light. Yes, they work well, but should only be used for their intended purpose - to help increase your visibility in poor climatic conditions. 3. Do all cars have fog lights? The dim glow is extinguished when the lights are on - and then all the other switches attain a dim glow as expected. The ground wire of my twin core cable also goes into the inner wing earth header - it is the eath return for the new fog lamp switch's tell-tale light. Before replacing the entire unit (removing airbag / steering wheel etc) can I simply disconnect the wiring from the current unit and connect it to the replacement unit to test the new switch without causing any issues? Relays do fail so might be that, but unless you are electrically minded and fancy getting dirty under the bumper to change a bulb, an auto electrician might be the best bet. i took diode out position 2 from the right side, put it in d3,the alarm for head lights being on,worked again,as did the alarm for the fog light, but still no fog light, the light on the switch remained not working and bulb don't light up

stop in the correct position at a junction with limited visibility and listen for traffic. When you are sure it is safe to emerge, do so positively and do not hesitate in a position that puts you directly in the path of approaching vehicles. watch out for snowploughs which may throw out snow on either side. Do not overtake them unless the lane you intend to use has been cleared Some people seem to have bought fresh imports from UK dealers, that have a MOT but don’t have a rear fog light. How did they do that? Well, I think you know the answer. Some ‘creative’ MOT testing has occurred. And by ‘creative’ I mean fraudulent.Take a minute to see if your car has rear fog lights. Put the car in Park, turn on the engine and then turn on the headlights. Walk around to see how your car looks with just the headlights switched on from the rear. See the pattern of the taillights? If you have someone who can help you, have them press the brake pedal so you can see what your brake lights look like. Now push the fog light button and return to the rear of the car. Notice any brighter lights that are similar in brightness to your brake lights? Then you’ve got rear fog lights as well. Now that you’re aware of this, using them should be restricted to poor visibility conditions — and not to annoy the poor guy behind you. Feel free to illuminate your headlights, driving lights and even front fog lamps (if they can be turned on independently from the rear fog lamps), but save your rear fog lamps for foggy weather.

Perhaps the drivers in europe have better manners, (or are at least educated on their proper use), than american drivers. It would be helpful if the Sates DVM's somehow focused on rear fogs because they are new and no one really knows much about their regulations or proper use. as the original fog bulb is,just like the old style bulbs you got for tail and brake lights, where one bulb with 2 different sized fillaments, were you tail light and brake light,as said combined in one bulb As mentioned earlier, you should not use your fog lights when the visibility is fine, in normal conditions, after the fog has cleared. This is because fog lights can dazzle other road users.

When to use your fog lights

It would appear DVLA can't agree with itself ! I note you don't mention any requirement for the height of reflectors. The live core of the twin cable goes to the middle pin of my new switch, the earth core to the switch's earth pin (for the tell tale light only).
