Ross, Charles D. (1974). Edward IV. English Monarchs series. Berkeley: University of California Press. ISBN 978-0-520-02781-7. Burns, John F. (24 September 2012). "DNA could cleanse a king besmirched; tests of skeletal remains may bring re-evaluation of the reviled Richard III". International Herald Tribune. La Défense, France. Archived from the original on 19 July 2018 . Retrieved 6 December 2018. Released today in UK cinemas, after premiering at the Toronto Film Festival last month, The Lost King is based on the extraordinary real-life story of amateur historian Philippa Langley's search for the lost remains of Richard III. She was the driving force behind an excavation carried out in a car park in Leicester in 2012 which, incredibly, uncovered the bones of the last Plantagenet king. However, the actual digging was planned and carried out by archaeologists from the University of Leicester and now the university is up in arms at its depiction in the film, written by Steve Coogan and Jeff Pope and starring Sally Hawkins as Langley and Coogan as her ex-husband John.

The Last Days of Richard III and the fate of his DNA (revised and updateded.). Stroud: The History Press (published 16 January 2013). ISBN 978-0-7524-9205-6. OL 26180251M. I wanted to write a play about the real Richard and the people – especially the influential women – around him,” said Gregory, who blames historians for “giving us such a dark picture of the king whose motto was loyalty and whose passion was chivalry”. Langley, played by Sally Hawkins in the film, is a passionate member of the Richard III Society and the woman who persuaded the local council and the University of Leicester to start the dig. All agree she is the heart of the story, but the historians and archaeologists who carried out the work fear the acclaimed team making the film, including co-screenwriter Jeff Pope and director Stephen Frears, have now cast them all as obstacles, rather than as Langley’s supporters.

Davies (2011). "Following Bosworth, Katherine Stafford was married, by 7 November 1485, to the new king's 55-year-old bachelor uncle, Jasper Tudor, now duke of Bedford." Ross (1981), p. 143, n. 53. However, Ross cites a letter from Edward IV in May 1480, the letter of appointment to his position as Lieutenant-General referred to his "proven capacity in the arts of war". Excavation director Mathew Morris, portrayed in the film by Alasdair Hankinson, said this weekend: “It was always going to be Philippa’s story, but my big concern is how we are shown. It is unfair if it doesn’t show our partnership with her.” In 2013, Langley co-authored with military historian Michael K. Jones, The King's Grave: The Search for Richard III (the first edition was published in New York with the title The King’s Grave: The Discovery of Richard III's Lost Burial Place and the Clues It Holds [48]). This weekend the film producers said they are “fascinated” to learn of the interest of so many of those associated with the story, “Especially as no one has yet seen the film”. They added that: “Quite simply, without the singleminded and unwavering determination of Philippa Langley, a smart, committed amateur historian, the remains of King Richard III would still be undiscovered.” Hammond, Peter W. (1984). The Coronation of Richard III: The Extant Documents. New York: St Martin's. ISBN 978-0-312-16979-4.
