Description

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention. Before using an OTC acne product for the first time, apply a small amount to one or two small affected areas of the skin for 3 days. If no discomfort occurs, follow the directions on the drug facts label of the product. For adults, children and the elderly: Bazuka Extra Strength Gel should be applied once daily. The gel should be applied once every night. Treatment can take several weeks for resistant lesions to disappear and it is necessary to persevere with the treatment. Children 2 years of age and older—Use the 2 to 10% cream as needed. Use the 25 to 60% cream once every 3 to 5 days. The Sal-Acid Plasters brand name has been discontinued in the U.S. If generic versions of this product have been approved by the FDA, there may be generic equivalents available. Uses for Sal-Acid Plaster

This medicine is for use only on the skin. Do not get any of it in your eyes, nose, or mouth . Rinse it off with water right away if it does get on these areas.

Plaster

Children 2 years of age and older—Use the 3 to 10% ointment as needed. Use the 25 to 60% ointment one time every 3 to 5 days. Salicylic acid works by softening keratin, a protein that forms part of the skin structure. This helps to loosen dry scaly skin making it easier to remove. When salicylic acid is used in combination with other medicines it takes off the upper layer of skin allowing the additional medicines to penetrate more effectively. Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: diabetes, poor blood circulation (such as peripheral vascular disease), skin infection/irritation.

Using this medicine with any of the following medicines is not recommended. Your doctor may decide not to treat you with this medication or change some of the other medicines you take. Use this medicine only as directed by your doctor. Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, and do not use it for a longer time than recommended on the label, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. To do so may increase the chance of absorption through the skin and the chance of salicylic acid poisoning.Keep this medicine away from the eyes and other mucous membranes, such as the mouth and inside of the nose. If you should accidentally get some in your eyes or on other mucous membranes, immediately flush them with water for 15 minutes. If your doctor has directed you to use this medication, remember that your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Using this medicine with any of the following medicines may cause an increased risk of certain side effects, but using both drugs may be the best treatment for you. If both medicines are prescribed together, your doctor may change the dose or how often you use one or both of the medicines. Bazuka Extra Strength Gel presents 26% salicylic acid in an evaporative collodion-like gel application which dries to form a cohesive and adhesive film on the skin. For warts—Repeat one or two times a day as needed for up to 12 weeks, or as directed by your doctor, until wart is removed. Although certain medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two different medicines may be used together even if an interaction might occur. In these cases, your doctor may want to change the dose, or other precautions may be necessary. When you are taking this medicine, it is especially important that your healthcare professional know if you are taking any of the medicines listed below. The following interactions have been selected on the basis of their potential significance and are not necessarily all-inclusive. Diabetes—Use with caution. May cause severe redness or ulceration, especially on the hands or feet. Salicylic acid poisoning (overdose) with topical preparations is rare. Symptoms of poisoning include confusion, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, rapid breathing, continuing ringing or buzzing in ears, severe drowsiness. Precautions when using topical salicylic acid preparations

If you are to use this soap in a foot bath, work up rich suds in hot water and soak the feet for 10 to 15 minutes. Then pat dry without rinsing. Using this medicine with any of the following medicines is usually not recommended, but may be required in some cases. If both medicines are prescribed together, your doctor may change the dose or how often you use one or both of the medicines. Slight burning, skin redness, and peeling may occur. These effects are expected. If any of these effects worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. To use any of the above preparations on the same affected area as salicylic acid may cause severe irritation of the skin. True allergy to topical salicylic acid is rare, however serious reactions including anaphylaxis have been reported.Furthermore, even when the film appears to dry completely, a proportion of the salicylic acid remains in solution within the vehicle, thus permitting continued release of the keratolytic, which may otherwise be entrapped within the dried collodion-like film. The gel yields a robust flexible film which is firmly anchored to the skin, and can therefore be used, even on the sole of the foot, without the added protection of a plaster. Whilst many salicylic acid preparations are available from a pharmacy, some preparations are only available on a doctor's prescription. These include preparations containing a combination of salicylic acid and topical corticosteroid, e.g. Diprosalic®. How to use salicylic acid preparations If you are going to have an MRI test, tell testing personnel if you are using the patch. Some patches may contain metals that can cause serious burns during an MRI. Ask your doctor whether you will need to remove your patch before the test and apply a new patch afterward, and how to do so properly. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same time each day. This medicine is available without a prescription. Some of these preparations are available only with your doctor's prescription.
