About this deal

Locals say that at night you can hear the ringing of the church bells and see lights under the lake, that troubled souls buried in the flooded graveyard no longer rest… The Scarlet and Ivy series just gets better and better. In this one (book 3), Scarlet is determined to star in the school ballet, and a lot of clues about their mother. But then Miss Finch disappears and is replaced with a new teacher. 'Poison letters' are being sent to everyone, and 'accidents' are striking in the most unexpected times. Who's doing this?

Madame Zelda, the new ballet teacher, was someone I felt that was a suspect at first. I felt that she was the responsible one for everything that was happening... but no. I was totally wrong! In my opinion, the author was super clever, trying to make Madame Zelda seem super suspicious so no-one would think it was anyone else, even though Madame Zelda was innocent. I was able to get in touch with the author of Scarlet and Ivy, Sophie Cleverly, to ask her some questions about the series and her plans for the future. Surprisingly, Scarlet’s behaviour was really different in this book😶 She wasn’t cruel towards Ariadne anymore …..that was a relief❤️ And Ariadne was way too smart…and I loved her surprise entry!!!! It’s summer and as a special treat after the horrors of last term Mrs Knight announces a school trip to Shady Pines Hotel on the shores of Lake Seren. Scarlet and Ivy are thrilled to get away from Rookwood for a break! Rookwood Okulu hapishane gibiydi. Bayan Fox’un çok katı kuralları gece tuvalete gitmemeye kadar uzanıyordu. Ivy, Scarlet’in odasını keşfetmeye başladığında yatağında bir sertlik hisseder. Bu, Scarlet’i bulmak için tek şansı olabilir. Bir günlük...

HAT ES MEINE ERWARTUNGEN ERFÜLLT? Ja, hat es! Ganz so hoch habe ich sie nicht geschraubt und erfüllt haben sie sich auch. When the shy Ivy's rebellious twin sister Scarlet dies of influenza at the creepy Rookwood boarding school, Ivy is forced to "take her place" in secret. Determined to find out if her sister really did die of influenza, Ivy needs to keep up her act of the minx, to do this though she has to find all the missing pieces of her sister's diary.

So Ivy now has to take on a great challenge. Scarlet and Ivy are like day and night, like chalk and cheese. But she has to remember all of her memories of Scarlet, otherwise she'll be in trouble. One day, she discovers a diary, Scarlet's, which tells her, bit by bit, the mysteries Ivy desperately wants to solve. Why did Scarlet die? Why did she obey Miss Fox? This has a VERY satisfying ending, but with an ‘opening’ that makes you want to read on by CHOICE! (a different kind of thing altogether) Scarlet and Ivy are resigned to staying at Rookwood School for Girls, all the better for getting rid of the horrible Principal Batholomew. With a new acting Principal, Rookwood will at least be safer to attend. Or maybe not? SC: Definitely! After hearing about things like the Bechdel Test, I really liked the idea of a series where the focus is almost entirely on girls and women due to the all-girls school environment. I went to an all-girls school myself (though it wasn’t private or a boarding school), so it was very familiar to me. I wanted to showcase female voices with a wide range of differences.

Publication Order of Scarlet and Ivy Books

This is the third book in the series and I quite enjoyed what the author did with this book. It kinda felt like she wrapped up the trilogy. The first book had a loose end, the second book had a few loose ends and this book is working through those loose ends carefully and wraps them up very nicely. Of course, it's all not very surprising. And if you start this book thinking it's a whodunnit you will end up disappointed, but as a boarding school adventure it works perfectly fine. With everything that's going on in the world, I don't really feel like reading loads of heavy and hard books. I need something easier, something light hearted, something that sparks joy and reminds me that the world can also be a fun and adventurous place. Therefore, apart from some supernatural romantic comedies, I also really enjoy reading middle grade novels at the moment and especially if they're set at a boarding school and star a set of twins. Nostalgia!

I loved Ivy (the main charcater) and timid Ariadne very muchhhh❤️. I even loved the evil Mrs.Fox . She was a teacher but was a headmistress in this book because the headmaster was on a vacation😂There was an amazing plot twist too which shook me❤️❤️ This book was so GRIPPING!!!!!! I think that this series is going to impress me😂 The ending was a bit loose but I liked it😂 GM: Finally, my nine-year-old son would like to ask what made you choose to add in the character of Rose in The Whispers in the Walls? SC: After having a bit of a break due to the birth of my daughter, I am working on a new series which is due to start next year. It’s all a bit of a secret at the moment, but I hope it will appeal to my fans. A letter arrives for Ivy telling her she can take Scarlet’s place at the school. Little does Ivy know she will be not only taking Scarlet’s place, but becoming Scarlet herself! She has to pretend to be her sister. Pushy, loud, feisty and even rude! Confused and scared of the imposing Miss Fox who has demanded this of her, Ivy settles in to Scarlet’s old room at the school, and discovers part of a diary from Scarlet. Something’s not right about all this, and Scarlet’s words prove it. The idea for Scarlet and Ivy came to Cleverly during a writing exercise at university. She’d been asked to imagine a character returning to a room they hadn’t been in for a long time when she’d visualised two beds, one girl and the remnants of a diary. Inspired by films, music, video games and her favourite authors, including Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, Cleverly’s Scarlet and Ivy series weaves classic themes of family, friendship and adversity into each mysterious tale.

I RELISHED this adventure sooo much. Ariadne was really very timid at first but got bold by the end of the book❤️ As for Rose’s character, she is quite different to the other girls—she is very shy, she struggles with speech and learning (often being selectively mute), and has a special interest in horses. Her differences wouldn’t be well understood in those days, but I wanted to show that she could be an important part of the group, too.
