Generally, lower handicappers are looking for a ball that spins more so they can get more control around the greens. In this case, getting a ball with a urethane cover is really important as it will give you the most spin and control. A unique core composition magnifies energy to generate maximum velocity off the club face for greater distance performance. Where I’ve been most pleased with the Staff Model is on long approaches. The combination of slightly higher spin and strong ball speed has resulted in longer, higher long iron shots and more eagle putts. Any ball that puts me in position to make more eagles is going to see more time in the bag. The ball is painted (usually white). It’s then stamped (logos, player numbers, geometric patterns, etc.), and, finally, a protective clear coat is applied to give the ball a glossy look and protect against scratches and scuffing.

The Wilson Staff Model ball is very white. This seems to be the way with some brands. They are a kind of brilliant white as opposed to the repressed look I am used to. The model R has a duller look. The branding is also very sure of itself, the Staff brand is bold in its modern, capitalised type face. The Staff Model is a 4-piece urethane golf ball with true Tour-caliber precision, speed, and consistency. Because uneven paint can harm performance, the Staff Model is painted with a highly regulated application technique that assures each urethane ball has a near-flawless finish when it leaves the manufacturer. You can always rely on the Staff Model to take you where you want. This is a masterpiece of perfection.

I loved it off my driver where I was getting some of my most impressive numbers of good strikes, and a very penetrating low spinning flight I was getting punchy, and consistent distance from my 7 iron, consistent with the variable CHS I was producing Since those humble beginnings, our endeavour has blossomed into a robust and trusted online retailer, representing the leading brands in the golf industry. We take immense pride in being your go-to destination for all things golf! For those of you unfamiliar with the golf ball manufacturing process, understand that Wilson’s new approach is unusual, to say the least. Urethane-covered balls offer the best spin control and feel but do cost more. Experiment with each to see if you notice enough of a difference to justify the extra cost, or whether the best mid-price golf balls might be an option.

The painting process can frequently result in balls with poor, uneven paint coverage and pooling of paint in these shallow dimples,” said Frank Simonutti, Global Director of Golf Ball Innovation. “This can significantly affect the trajectory and the directional stability of the flight of the ball. By eliminating the paint, we were able to eliminate all of the shortcomings attributed to the painting process used on all golf balls.“ When a ball gets a minor scuff or scrape, it’s typically in the paint layers. Urethane is more durable than paint so Wilson contends the Staff Model R will prove more resilient to the minor damage that most golfers associate with durability. The bottom line is that the Wilson Staff Model R, anecdotally anyway, appears to live up to the lower-launch, higher-spin billing. Unfortunately, that also means it’s not a particularly good fit for me.Wedges: Dynacraft Dual Millled 52*, SteelFiber i125 S -or- Scratch 8620 DD 53*, SteelFiber i125 S; Cobra Snakebite 56* -or- Wilson Staff PMP 58*, Dynamic S -or- Ram TW282 SW -or- Ram TW276 SW Welcome to The Golf Shop Online, where our passion for golf drives us to provide you with an exceptional shopping experience!
