I’d suggest it really needs to be a little higher, though I do have small hands.

Warm soapy water and a bottle brush will clean all sorts of water bottles including metal, glass and plastic. I recommend that you use fragrance-free soap, as bottles made of silicone and plastic can take on the scent of the soap. For straws, use a pipe cleaner. If a straw is removable, soak the straw at least once a week,” says Byrne. I've gone from being convinced this was something overhyped and overpriced to cautiously converted to my daughter's view that for her this is a 'must-have' for school. I won't lie though, at this price I was relieved when my seven-year-old tried sipping from it, screwed up his face and asked if he could have a standard Spider-Man themed water bottle for a fraction of the price instead. That said, Air Up is not for everyone, especially those who drink a lot of water and need a larger water bottle capacity (the plastic version holds 22 ounces while the stainless steel version holds 28 ounces). One tester said, "I wish it were available in different sizes, so I didn't have to refill it so often." BottleUp was founded in Amsterdam in 2019 to help fight the international single-use plastic crisis. In the UK alone it has been reported that over 7.7 billion single-use plastic waterbottles are consumed every year, with waterbottles making up over half of the plastic waste in the Thames. Unlike other sports bottles, it’s also beautifully designed. I love the blue linen colour (shown above). The powdered coating means it doesn’t slip, even with sweaty hands, and the ridged edging on the lid makes the cap easy to twist off. The rather large branding down the side is a turn off for me, though at least it’s subtle in colour. That said, Lululemon is a prestigious fitness brand which I imagine many would be proud to show off.Kids obviously won't accept that as an alternative, though, as what they're really after is an opportunity to show off owning the Air Up brand to their peers, and to get excited about trying out the snazzy flavours. UK consumers go through an estimated 14 billion plastic drinks bottles per year, according to Defra, but single-use plastic is falling out of favour thanks to efforts from David Attenborough and Greta Thunberg. More people are turning to reusable water bottles and in return, bottles are getting smarter. The best water bottles these days are insulated, leak-proof, filtered and BPA free. Fill your water bottle with water to the capacity line, then attach the mouthpiece with the straw to the bottle.

I liked how sturdy the bottle was and how, despite spending a week throwing it into bags for various school holiday excursions, it didn't leak at any point. My one minor gripe is that it isn't dishwasher safe, but to be honest at that price I'd be handwashing it anyway to make sure it lasts properly. When you sip from Air up, scent-flavored air bubbles travel through the straw into your mouth which produces a bubbling sound and means it’s working. As the scent-flavored air bubbles rise it is perceived as taste.

Effective help for families and drinkers

My favourites were the Orange-Vanilla and the Raspberry-Lemon. In both cases, one of the flavours was more dominant than the other (orange and lemon, respectively), but they gave my water a pleasant citrusy zing, and I enjoyed sipping away at those.

I adore the Yeti Rambler, but I couldn’t put it higher on this list because it’s so heavy. The lightest 532 ml version weighs 462g empty. For context, the S’wheat weighs almost half that, at 250g, and Chilly’s Series 2 bottles weigh 390g. Half a kilo may still not sound very heavy, but it sure will take its toll on weaker wrists. The bottle also makes quite a noisy slurping sound when you drink from it with the Air Pod engaged. According to Air Up this is intentional, but I can't imagine how infuriating it must be for a teacher to have 30 of these things being slurped in their classroom. It's probably a good thing I'm not a teacher. In our Lab, we performed drop and leak tests on both a plastic and a stainless steel model, and we tested nine different flavor pods that we rated based on flavor, longevity and strength. We also evaluated the water bottle for how easy it was to fill, carry, drink from and clean. What is in the flavor pods? It is important to think about what you will be using the bottle for, as well as the materials used and if they are environmentally friendly,” says Byrne. She notes that the main reason people choose to buy a reusable water bottle is to cut down on single-use plastic and help the environment, so it makes sense to choose a bottle that is environmentally friendly, like the plant-based S’wheat bottle. Parsing through data points and tester notes, we confirmed an inevitable result: Some testers didn't like a certain pod, while others loved it. People perceive scents differently, especially if they have personal ties to a scent or if their sense of smell isn't as strong as another individual's. For example, some testers didn't see themselves reaching for the Air Up water bottle after testing, but others found it to be innovative.Stainless steel is a reasonable option for a sustainable water bottle as it’s 100 per cent recyclable. Plastic uses oil and water in the production and releases carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, but can be more environmentally friendly if it is recycled. Comfort: We found the mouthpiece to be more comfortable than other water bottles we've tested with soft silicone material, but we did note that you had to sip a little harder on the water bottle to get enough water compared to competitors. And the straw was difficult to remove and to reattach as well. "I wish the straw were easier to put on the bottle," said one consumer tester. "I struggle to get it on just right every single time, and then I can't screw on the cap."
