About this deal

For the hair, I once again started with Doombull Brown and this time highlighted with Reaper Tarnished Copper, then again with Tarnished Copper mixed with a bit of Wild Rider Red. Add dots of pure white over the previous steps. This is the bit where suddenly it looks like metal and it’s very satisfying. You really are aiming for small dots (unless it’s a vehicle then you can go for bigger patches. Reds

The Primaris Intercessor was primed with Mechanicus Standard Grey from Games Workshop, the armour then basecoated with a couple of thinned coats of Formula P3 Pig Iron [ Leadbelcher]. I like to add a little drop of Vallejo Game Color Glaze Medium or Lahmian Medium to thin metallic paints, in addition to a drop of water. Metallic paints tend to dry rather fast, and the Glaze Medium will help to create a smoother basecoat. Of course, you could also use Leadbelcher spray for basecoating, or even use an airbrush. Other than that, the way I painted them is the same as all my other Crimson Fists, as per one of our very earliest HTPEs and extracted below for convenience: Blood Games by Dan Abnett is a short story set within the Emperor’s Palace and what Custodes do when they’re not fighting. Finally, the shields were done by basecoating the inner section with Caliban Green followed by a heavy stipple of Warpstone. Reaper Jade Green was then lightly stippled, randomly to create clusters of color like you get in the gemstone. Finally the white veins were done with thinned down Splintered Bone. Scale75 Necro Gold frames the shield (and is what I used for all the rest of the gold. Both the Chaplain and the Judiciar had their skeleton ribs painted the same as the skeleton on the Ancient’s banner, Rakarth Flesh and then Flayed One Flesh. Every one has their own secret sauce for the gold on their Custodes. I wanted to go for a slightly more antiqued look from the usual bright retributor armor color. First, I airbrushed the entire model with Vallejo Game Color Hammered Copper, then did a zenithal highlight of Vallejo Model Air Gold. For those without an airbrush, you could easily paint the model in Hammered Copper and drybrush a gold over top. If you’re working with GW Paints, I’d recommend Screaming Bell or Brass Scorpion, then a drybrush of Liberator Gold or Golden Griffon.

The shaman was thereafter trapped in Kha'Rak's mind warring for control with him, the towering Doombull as likely to stand firm and unleash dark magics upon his foe as he is to charge headlong into combat. [1a] The Tau armor is the most iconic color, as it is in no other faction in 40k. Ochre as it’s known is a mix of brown, beige and orange. It’s worth noting that because of this, you can alter the color to your liking, from more orange to more sand.

Although their numbers were greatly reduced during the Battle of the Webway during the Horus Heresy, the Legio Custodes now once again numbers ten thousand warriors, each dedicated to the protection of Terra. Since the return of Roboute Guilliman and his ascension to the role of Imperial Regent, they have lifted their self-imposed Edict of Restraint and once again begun crusading across the Imperium to bring swift death to the foes of mankind. They played a pivotal role in Guilliman’s battle against Magnus and the Thousand Sons on Luna, and in the defense of the Imperial palace. Such is their might that the Administratum has never recorded a single loss for the a battle that the Custodes have participated in. Airbrush Vallejo Model Air Insignia White over the entire thing. You could also use your favorite off-white, I’m a fan of Insignia white as it’s very close and just a tiny bit warm. Finally base the model in a way which fits in with your collection. I used Stirland Mud texture paint highlighted with Karak Stone and the base edge was painted with XV-88. Static grass and scrub were glued on in small clumps. Despite our best efforts to split everything, Liam and I did end up with a bit of overlap as there are some things in here that are just too cool not to paint. Liam hopped in and painted up a unit of Eradicators, and I painted up the Judiciar as soon as I’d finished my main commitment. Silent angry dude with a big sword is just too cool not to paint. GW's new range matches with the old range are the matches claimed by GW. However, many of the paints do not match very closely at all and some mixing will be required to get close to the original colours. If you are trying to match old GW with new GW, you'd be better just getting Vallejo game color or coat d'arms for the closest match )
