Easter is still quite far away, but 40523 Easter Rabbits Display goes on sale on 1 February 2022, and will be available o LEGO.com, or from your local LEGO store! You have 2 options to decorate the rabbit’s surroundings – a clutch of brightly coloured Easter Eggs, or 3 tulip-like flowers, blossoming in spring. The brown rabbit’s “rubbing its hands together gleefully” look is also very cute! Add in some extra details like darker fur colours on their bellies, and you have a pair of really cute, masterfully designed rabbits!

I liked the height difference, which gives it a sense of dynamism, and also the generous use of tiles, and curved slopes to give it a smooth, wavy look. That and the use of 3 different shades of green give the base a pleasant pop of colour. Both rabbits are a delight to build and display, and I really appreciate the option to swap out the decorations, and customise it to your liking, which ultimately increases the replayability and utility of the set. Both options are brightly coloured, with some really fun colour combinations, and you can also mix things up and use both flowers and easter eggs in the scene. My 5 year old daughter helped put the set together for me, and didn’t need a lot of help. She really likes Easter (and Easter Eggs), so she was ecstatic to piece this set together. Other than hinged ears, there's no articulation, but that's enough to change their character from alert to inquisitive.

Easter Rabbits Display is a really well put together and designed seasonal set. LEGO have tried the solo animal build before, but introducing a companion really ups the playability, and interactivity of the model as it makes it look less like a statue or model, but a fully self-contained scene. All together, though, it’s a bit busy. There really isn’t space to fit both bunnies and all of the accessories on the base at the same time, so you can mix-and-match which eggs and flowers you like best, but then you’re left with the question of what to do with the others. They will stand up on their own, but fall over (and roll!) extremely easily. A variety of eggs multicoloured and flowers are provided with which to decorate it. One of the eggs uses a 2x2 dome piece in transparent medium violet opal, a rare colour introduced in 2020.

Easter Rabbits Display is a fantastic set for builders on a budget, or if you enjoy collecting LEGO’s annual seasonal themes, and is the front-runner for me so far. I really cannot wait to see what other animals we get this year! This is quite a mediocre value compared to other seasonal sets increased such as the Lego Christmas sets which have seen over a 300% value increase. A variety of curved and cheese slopes have been used to give the lagomorphs an organic appearance, and they both look suitably winsome. Despite their different stances they share the same head and hind leg design.If you have the money to throw at it, I’d say go for it. But let’s just be truthful, there isn’t hype behind this enough for it to be something spectacular, and LEGO won’t adapt this series of sets too far beyond what it is now.
