Barty was born in around 1962 or 1963 into the influential pure-blood Crouch family, which had strong connections to the Ministry of Magic. Bartemius Crouch Senior's intent on catching Dark wizards and becoming Minister for Magic likely played a role in him not paying enough attention to his son. It is very possible that this had an influence on the younger Barty's life choices. [12] His mother, Mrs Crouch, was a " wispy looking witch" who dearly loved him. Fleur Isabelle Delacour is a student of Beauxbatons Academy in France, and is selected as a champion in the prestigious Triwizard Tournament. Her maternal grandmother is a Veela, from whom Fleur inherited her silvery-blonde hair, pale eyes, good looks, and ability to enchant men. It is revealed in the Tournament wand inspection that the core of Fleur's wand is a Veela hair from her grandmother.

Barty was insistent on his innocence, claiming he had not taken part in the crimes, and begged his father before the entire assembled Council and witnesses such as Rita Skeeter and his mother to clear him of the charges. Barty's father headed the Department of Magical Law Enforcement at the time and was under extreme pressure to appear to be punishing the terrorism perpetrated by Lord Voldemort's Death Eaters. He also generally wanted to punish his son; he was very disappointed with him and it was a big embarrassment for Crouch Snr himself to have a Death Eater for a son. The torture of the Longbottoms was considered one of the most evil crimes recorded and used the trial as nothing more as to condemn his son. the spider begins hopping around the room, onto student's clothes, faces, etc. Everyone starts laughing] Apparition: Moody, like most accomplished adult wizards, could Apparate at will. He originally intended to bring Harry away from the Dursley's through side-along apparition. They would not need Patronuses.” Crouch Jnr's father, as a high-ranking Ministry official, spent his entire life dedicated to eradicating the Dark forces, and as such, didn't pay enough attention to his own son. When Crouch Jnr was caught with other Death Eaters at the crime scene of torture of Alice and Frank Longbottom to insanity, his father's parental affection extended to as much as giving him a trial, something he did not always give other suspects. In the end, the trial was merely to make an example out of his own son, and to publicly disown him, making clear he had nothing to do with anyone who would even remotely be connected to the committing of such a horrible crime. Crouch Snr mercilessly sentenced his own son to Azkaban for life. After learning that Voldemort was planning to kill Lily Potter to get to the young Harry, Snape turned secret agent for Dumbledore against Voldemort. Later served as a re-doubled agent in the second war. He was the Potions Master at Hogwarts, and his Patronus took the form of a doe, the same as Lily Potter's, the only one whom he had ever loved. Snape delivered the Sword of Godric Gryffindor to Harry in the Forest of Dean using his Patronus. Killed by Voldemort's snake Nagini during the Battle of Hogwarts.

Molly Weasley: " Your father thinks very highly of Mad-Eye Moody." Fred Weasley: " Yeah, well, Dad collects plugs, doesn't he?" — A discussion regarding Arthur Weasley's high regard of Moody [src] Even though the Kiss is not shown, it still happened anyway, since there are no contradictions to the book about people's fates even though they are not shown. It is implied in the later films, however, that it did happen when Voldemort broke his Death Eaters out of Azkaban and Crouch Jnr did not appear. Moody was described as having a growling voice and looking as though his face was roughly carved from wood. Due to injuries from his long career as an Auror, it was covered with scars, and a chunk of his nose was missing. He had dark grey, grizzled hair. He also had a wooden leg that was described as having a clawed foot.According to his file, Alastor Moody was 6' 2" and weighed 183 lbs. Whether this weight accounted for his prosthetic leg (which, in the films where the file is seen, is made of metal and thus would presumably be significantly heavy) or not is unknown. [4] His popularity, however, was not universal, as a mutual hatred sprang up between him and Snape. Snape constantly tells Harry that James was "exceedingly arrogant", [13] and on one occasion, Sirius admits that he and James could sometimes be "arrogant little berks" but that "James grew out of it" (which Lily is said to have noted by their seventh year). He became Head Boy in his seventh year along with Lily as Head Girl. [14] Professor Moody emerges from a classroom near to the Charms corridor just after Harry tells Cedric about the dragons. Moody doesn't directly tell Harry anything, but he encourages him to put the two pieces of advice together to figure out what he needs for the first task.

If one of us is killed —" — Moody cautiously preparing for flight [src] Vance was killed by Death Eaters in 1996, while Podmore was imprisoned in Azkaban for attempting to open the door of the Department of Mysteries. Moody didn't know it and was angry with Podmore, because he had taken his Invisibility Cloak. Nymphadora Tonks is a Metamorphmagus and an Auror. Her name means "Gift of the Nymphs". She despises her first name and prefers to be called by her surname alone. She is still referred to as "Tonks" by her peers even after her marriage. Sneakoscope: Moody's Sneakoscope was large, and Barty Crouch, impersonating Moody, said that he disabled it because it was constantly spinning and whistling due to the large number of students who were practising untrustworthy behaviour in the vicinity. In reality, it was constantly signalling that Barty Crouch was committing a deception. Barty Crouch Jnr was played by actor David Tennant in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. However, Brendan Gleeson plays most of the role, as he is the actor who portrays Moody. David Walliams was offered the role but turned it down due to scheduling conflicts with the third season of Little Britain. [ citation needed]He says in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 that Polyjuice Potion "tastes like goblin piss" before the Battle of the Seven Potters. He was also friendly with Hermione Granger. Hermione and Moody fought at several battles together, but, when Moody was killed, Hermione was devastated. Crouch also loved Quidditch in his youth, a fact mentioned by Winky. Also, as a young man, he was extremely emotional, weeping and screaming before he was sent to the Dementors and pleading violently with his father to grant him leniency. He screamed constantly in Azkaban — but this can be supremely expected among the prisoners of Dementors. This could be seen as hypocritical, as he snarled at Death Eaters for hiding and refusing to brave Azkaban in Voldemort's name, which is what he did himself. However it could have been merely an act in an attempt to escape so he could continue his search for Voldemort, as he was shown to be a talented actor.

It is not until Deathly Hallows that Aberforth plays an important role in the series by taking Harry, Ron, and Hermione into his bar before the Death Eaters can capture them. Aberforth later reveals to the trio some facts they did not know about the history of the Dumbledore family. While being held prisoner in Malfoy Manor, Harry briefly glimpses Aberforth's eye in the remaining shard of the two-way mirror he was given by Sirius and calls for Aberforth's help. Aberforth bought its counterpart from Mundungus Fletcher. Using the mirror to watch over the trio, Aberforth sends Dobby to rescue them and the other prisoners from the Manor. He liked Dobby and was upset to hear Bellatrix Lestrange killed him. A new version of the wand was released by the Noble Collection. It is larger than the original that was available in an Ollivander's box and it has two rings with a metallic look. This altered look likely reflects a change in the wand's design that occurred after the production of Goblet of Fire, as the original prop of the wand displayed at the Warner Bros studio tour in London resembles a shorter version of the second wand produced by the noble collection, but with a swirled handle and a rougher, bumped design on the round end. The 'Ollivanders box' version of the wand is accurate to its appearance in The Goblet of Fire, and the version in the collector's box is most likely a relatively inaccurate attempt at replicating the second version of the wand, with aspects of the design lifted from the first. However, this is unconfirmed, as no wand belonging to Moody was ever seen on the screen other than in The Goblet of Fire. [19] Murdered along with his wife and children by Death Eaters during the First Wizarding War. Edgar Bones was the brother of the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, Amelia Bones. His niece, Susan Bones, is a Hufflepuff student in Harry's year at Hogwarts and is a member of Dumbledore's Army. Barty Crouch Jnr was very gifted and intelligent, whose potential as a wizard could be matched by only a select few. Armed with only the magical skills he had acquired throughout seven years of Hogwarts education, he successfully demonstrated sufficient magical ability to fool a whole school of learned academicians into believing him to be a seasoned Auror, speaking for his considerable skills. Additionally, Crouch swiftly came up with a feasible strategy to help Harry Potter win the Triwizard Tournament after he placed the boy's name into the Goblet of Fire. His intelligence has been vouched for by even Lord Voldemort, who while reluctant to trust Pettigrew wholeheartedly entrusted him to be the one to guide Harry to the rebirth ceremony. During the Calamity, his appearance as an Adversary was what set the framework for the Lethal classification.
