About this deal

The temperature in the roasting drum is now reduced, while the beans need to heat up. They increase in temperature as they’re exposed to the heat in the drum, reaching a point where the temperature stops cooling and starts to increase. This is the moment that most roasters refer to as the turning point , represented on the bottom of the curve in the graph. It’s important to remember the coffee beans are getting hotter throughout the whole process, even though it might not look like that on the graph. The graph begins at the charge temperature , which is the internal temperature of the roasting drum when you add the beans. This will be the first point represented on the graph. Many specialty coffee shops only serve medium to light roast coffees, hoping to share the possibility of subtle, natural flavors in coffee. In these settings medium roast acts as a “gateway coffee” for dark roast drinkers: it offers familiar dark roast flavors mixed with exciting notes of fruits, nuts and grains. By not roasting so dark, we were able to taste the natural characteristics of the coffee bean without the burnt flavor of the roast. Since the milk does not contain any additional caffeine, these drinks contain the same amount of caffeine as straight espresso. The roasting temperature for a dark roast is between 464°F – 482°F. There are visible oils on dark roast beans. Typically you cannot taste any origin flavors in a dark roast, just the effects the roasting process has on that type of coffee bean. Light roast is considered to have the most caffeine in it. It’s not by much though. According to the Healthline study a cup of lightly roasted coffee has around 60 milligrams of caffeine, while the same amount of dark roast has 51 milligrams of caffeine. The longer the coffee is roasted, the less caffeine it keeps. The darker the roast doesn’t automatically translate to a stronger coffee. Coffee strength is based on how you brew and not how you roast. Lighter roasts will have not only more caffeine but also a stronger flavor. So despite what some might think, the winner of both caffeine and strength is a light roast.
