According to CaFleureBon, Tobacco Oud was created by Olivier Gillotin of Givaudan who made Tobacco Vanille for Tom Ford. The Moodie Report describes the fragrance and its notes as follows: I tried Oud Fleur twice, and I realised mere minutes into my first test that half of the things I was scribbling on my notepad weren’t on that list. From cardamom to ginger, apricot-y osmanthus, and more, the notes I detected didn’t match up with Fragrantica’s bare bones description. So I did some digging, and I found a much more substantial list at The Moodie Report which is presumably quoting a Tom Ford Press release. It describes Oud Fleur as follows : With an established je ne sais quoi about the brand, one needs to explore deeper into the scents themselves. Do they deliver the fantasy?

That being said, it could still be worn, by anybody. Just be aware beforehand, what you’re getting. By the middle of the second hour, Oud Fleur smells like a creamy, almost custardy, almost mousse-y, airy flan infused with slightly burning spikes of chili pepper, then covered with a blanket of lightly sweetened, fruited flowers. The notes have blurred into each other, the fragrance feels increasingly soft, and hovers just an inch above the skin. Oud Fleur does not want to be understood, I am convinced of that. Not every question needs an answer. Not every decision needs to be made. Not everything needs to be committed to. Sometimes it is enough to pause for a moment and enjoy. Existence, life, love and the feeling of not having to have an answer to everything.

My Account

I like its darker and spicier aspects. I find it intriguing and the somewhat damp woodiness and rose note, was much better than I would normally find it to be. The resin and spice is a nice touch in Oud Fleur to create a more distinct aroma versus all of the others on the market. Tobacco Oud is standing in front of the hearth and warming your hands, a brief respite from the cool outdoors. Amber Absolute is curling up in a luxurious blanket in your favorite chair and settling in for the night.

Seasonally, this is a colder weather scent. Though, in a temperate climate, it wouldn’t be too out of place. I would avoid the heat. It does have good versatility, as it can go formal, or serve as a romantic wear. It has more of an elegant profile, but I wore it casually, without it feeling too out of place. The above is most definitely only a personal curating of Tom Ford's 8 best fragrances and is not meant to be the be-all and end-all of top fragrances lists. There are other excellent scents, too, by Ford, like Grey Vetiveror Beau de Jour, even the rather overpriced cologne Neroli Portofino, but those feel like they could be placed in other lines as well, while the ones I chose above have that distinctive Tom Ford trademark writ large on their sleeve. The fragrance consists of incredibly tasteful rose scents - and these are also enveloped, and I don't like to explain what it is. Sandalwood? Oud? Patchouli? In the meantime I have tested so many fragrances, and it is often easy to extract the beauty of individual components. Here it's different: the interaction of the components creates something wonderful and very unique and for me indescribable.According to CaFleureBon, Oud Fleur was created by Yann Vasnier of Givaudan who has made a number of fragrances for Tom Ford. The perfume’s notes on Fragrantica are extremely limited: A juicy, completely dark and mysterious rose enters the ring, which wants to fight a battle with the spicy oud. So at least the first impression. This first half feels very rosy to me. I’m not sure how many times, that I’ve had to test out a oud and rose combo fragrance, but it’s getting repetitive. This one, however, is actually one of the better examples I must say.
