So, Hades is determined to make sure the Fates don’t take Persephone away by any means necessary including stealing the prized ox of another god. This entire storyline makes A Game of Fate feel like a completely different story, rather than an exact rewrite of A Touch of Darkness just from a different POV.

First time I’ve ever thought that when reading a book written from the other perspective. he saw that it was so twined with the man she loved, she no longer resembled her true self. Hades visits Orpheus–a man that had come to him in front of Persephone, requesting to trade his life for his wife’s life. At the time Hades had disregarded his request, and Persephone argued why he couldn’t at least meet the mortal with a compromise by showing him his wife in the Underworld so that he could get closure. Hades asks Orpheus why he carries guilt with him, to which Orpheus responds that he feels guilty for living his life while the love of his life had died, and every moment that he lives, he just feels guilty knowing that she is not experiencing this with him. While Hades cannot grant Orpheus his original request, he does grant Orpheus a 24 hour stay with his wife in the Underworld. Still, I couldn’t put this book down, and I really want to see where this series goes from here. The next book I think is A Touch of Malice which comes out in May of this year. Overall, I would give A Game of Fate a 3.5 out of 5-star rating. It’s good and different from A Touch of Darkness where you don’t feel like you’re reading the same book twice, but there’s not a lot of character growth. Hades is pretty much the same from start to finish, he doesn’t really grow from his insecurities. Granted, I think that’s more something for him that happened in A Touch of Ruin. He’s not open about his feelings or really anything with Persephone. Not to mention, the charity project that’s his character growth moment isn’t written in a way where it feels like a character growth moment. And that could’ve been the perfect opportunity for it since it does show change. He took Persephone’s advice over how to do his bargains differently, a different want to help addicts rather than just challenging them and letting them figure out how to get better. It could’ve been more is all I’m saying, but that entire character growth moment was written like an afterthought. Whereas, for Persephone is was huge as their relationship changes and develops from there from attraction to love. Some use tarot cards, others use astrology, and still, others use simple chance. The most popular Fate Games are probably those based on the board game known as The Game of Life. The concept of a Fate Game is not new, however. Players take turns to move one of their pieces along one of the lines on the board. The piece can only move in straight lines and can not go off the edge of the board.
