About this deal

Does the head unit automatically 'connect' to the Huawei E8372 when you start the car? you don't have to manually connect. In my opinion the Guide and Inform Services , news, weather, traffic etc are of marginal interest and are useable only when not driving - better off using the phone. Reliable 3G is enough, the work I do doesn't require vast bandwidth just a constant connection as it's over a VPN. Anything that increases the range of places I can work is a godsend.

lightbody - I bought a dongle and it's worked perfectly ever since. No issues, nice and easy, never think about it. Your advice was really helpful, thank you. All content is viewed and used at your own risk. We do not warrant the accuracy or reliability of any of the information.I agree does seem silly to sell the car as having a 'wifi hotspot' when you end up using your phone or a dongle to make it functional! I've been very impressed with the built in nav system compared to Google maps on Android auto. It seems better at not sending you down ridiculously small roads for example. I don't have an apple phone so can't comment on the Apple equivalent. This is much safer as I can glance at the TomTom whilst keeping the road ahead within my field of vision.

Its not the Pro - because its got the knobs on it! (which I'm grateful for - I like a volume knob!)

My RCD 310 has live traffic updates which is a waste of time as it tells about traffic problems not in my area I disabled that stupid feature. It is really getting off topic to discuss the relative merits of the iPhone and Android phones. I’ve been a Luddite for many years and have refused to buy a smart phone. However, my elder daughter has an Android and is very pleased with it, and my younger daughter has an iPhone and is equally pleased with it. And, having watched them use various useful apps on their phones, I’ve been persuaded to buy a smart phone. I regard the built-in display as very dangerous because I have to look down and take my eyes completely off the road. Connecting to an EE iPhone over wifi hotspot is particularly slow (I've found it unreliable on everything, regualrly having to turn the hotspot on/off/on to make a connection actually access the interent). I've attached some pics to illustrate my original post above. The last two show me approaching a speed camera, and then on the main Nav screen a zoomed out version with all the speed cameras in the area. The speedcamera in between the dials is hard to miss I'd say.
