About this deal

Get the gaming edge with HDMI 2.1, G-Sync, Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), High Frame Rate (HFR), and Game Optimiser options. This screen has four times the number of pixels than Full HD TVs, delivering stunning realism, natural motion and incredible detail. High Dynamic Range expands light, dark, and every colour in between for a picture that's closer to real life. This set supports multiple HDR formats including Dolby Vision. Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying a live scene and white square taking up 60% of the screen (measured in Nits) Whether you’re a box-set binger or a live sport lover, smart televisions put your favourite content in the palm of your hands. Key benefits of LG Smart TVs… Switching to standard HDR10 with The Hunt from the Apple TV app, and while there’s the inevitable slight drop in crispness when compared to watching a disc, the picture is still undeniably lovely.

The C1 also delivers lovely, naturalistic HDR. Peak highlights were measured at 750 nits using the Standard image present and a 5% measurement window (better reflecting how highlights typically appear on screen). This isn’t as perky as the new 'OLED Evo' panel on the G1, but it’s not far off at all. LG gets around this to a certain extent by using virtualisation. AI Sound Pro enlarges the soundstage and sharpens dialogue for standard content. Dolby Atmos decoding is switched in when it's detected, a virtual height channel offering faux immersion.

LG’s webOS smart platform was once the gold standard for smart connectivity, but it became increasingly unwieldy as more and more functions were added. Here we see the fruits of a radical full-screen reimagining, and it’s largely successful. The stand is quite wide, but the LG CX’s overall footprint is a fair bit narrower than that of sets such as the Sony A8, which has feet at either end of its bottom panel. The CX does sit rather low, though, which could be an issue if you plan to place a soundbar in front of it. Addendum. In fact, Sony offers essentially the same TV at the same price but with catch-ups included. Why would you buy the LG? Because you like playing with your dongle?😂😂😂 Reply The set’s latency performance is very good for gaming. We measured input lag at 12.6ms (1080/60) with Game mode on. LG C1 review: Sound quality

LG has also clearly done some work on its motion processing for 2020, and while it’s still a touch behind Sony, the CX and its siblings do a good job of sharpening and smoothing motion without making it look unnatural.

The 55in CX’s sound system is the same 2.2-channel, 40W affair as seen in the 48in model we’ve already tested. Predictably, then, it sounds similar, albeit with a slightly fuller balance that’s typical of a bigger TV. There’s a full suite of AI modes (grouped under the AI service setting), which offer blanket processing improvements regardless. AI Picture Pro crunches video content and applies noise reduction and sharpness in real time, while AI Brightness offers an HDR-style lift to SDR programmes. Similarly, AI Sound Pro uses clever audio processing to lift and separate two channel and 5.1 mixes.

If you want to connect your TV to a blu-ray player, games console, soundbar or soundbase then you'll need a HDMI cable. Oddly, while the Magic Remote made sense with the old-style webOS, it feels a little at odds with the new full-screen webOS v6.0; the on-screen cursor is an almost redundant affectation. A Cinematic Movement option that controls the level of frame merging is particularly effective, and all but eliminates the horrid soap opera effect (if you’re a fan, Smooth is still available). While the C1 generally over delivers on the video front, its audio performance is less stand-out. The screen has volume – output is rated at 40W cumulative - and boasts Dolby Atmos decoding, but the physical speaker configuration is limited by the set’s cabinet design. This year’s C-class model is the CX, here reviewed in 55in OLED55CX guise. We’ve already tested and loved it at the new 48in size, but is it similarly superb at this more cinematic scale? It certainly is. PricingWhile Dolby Vision IQ has won us round somewhat, the same cannot be said of Filmmaker Mode, another new feature for LG’s 2020 OLEDs. This is a UHD Alliance-approved picture preset that’s supposed to deliver the picture precisely as intended, but it isn’t metadata-led or tailored to the specific content being played. In fact, here it’s just a blanket set of picture settings that’s practically identical to those of the Cinema preset, and the result is a very dull picture. With TVs getting slimmer and built-in speakers getting smaller, choosing the right sound system is more important than ever. Soundbars enhance your TV's sound quality and add that extra audio punch to all your movies, games and TV programmes. More affordable and easier to set up than a full size speaker system, they don't compromise on quality either.

Users in the US will also find Hulu and Vudu in the app selection, although Vimeo is missing, while Australian buyers get the likes of Telstra TV Box Office, Foxtel and Stan. Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying small white square taking up 10% of the screen (measured in Nits)Creation Consumer Finance Ltd is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (Register no. 311518). Should you want a bigger CX model, it’s also available at 65in and 75in sizes. There’s also now a smaller model, the OLED48CX, which is in fact the world’s first 48in OLED TV. LG’s AI Picture Pro picture system has had a deep learning performance bump this season which allows it to better optimise and analyse images in real time; it seems HD upscaling is also a beneficiary. Google Assistant: Ask your TV questions about what you’re watching and find new content using Google voice search.
