About this deal

Lia Mara is alright. She's likeable enough and there is nothing obviously wrong with her character imho. But she is not nearly as compelling as Harper. Occasionally she even felt like a lesser version of Harper and I'm just not here for that (I mean can we talk about the way she killed her mother? Is everyone proficient in knife throwing now or??) Mostly she's just kind of .. there and cries a lot. I cry a lot too, so no judgement, but that romance just doesn't feel genuine. I didn't even recognize Grey during 90% of their "moments" together. Writing secret little love notes like a school boy, REALLY? Errrrrr #notmygrey Harper and Grey didn't have a good start, after he dragged her from her world into Emberfall. Over time, they end up getting well along, trusting each other, and becoming great friends. Harper teasingly calls him Scary Grey. It is implied in A Heart So Fierce and Broken that he may have had feelings for Harper and she could possibly have had feelings for him. "but Jake's not you" in reference to when they were escaping the castle. This might have been had he not been sworn of any sort of family and Rhen had not been there. Instead they remained great friends.

A Heart So Fierce and Broken (The Cursebreaker Series)

There's a lot of romantic tension leading up to an intense kiss and a night of strong bonding but no sex. A princess who's a dynastic pawn says she can "bed a man without liking him" (though she and her sister both admit they've never done any such thing). A matriarchal ruler finds a different guy every time she wants to have a child. Various characters are part of couples, straight and gay. A tween character implies that he sold himself into indentured servitude to save his sisters from being sold into prostitution to pay his father's gambling debts (although he doesn't come out and say "prostitution"). The Barnes & Noble Exclusive Edition includes an exclusive bonus chapter from Harper's point of view. Commander Grey was such a wonderful character in ACSDAL, he had sworn his life to the Royal family and to Rhen in particular. In doing so he had to detach from all his family and to forego any future family that could possibly ever be used against him to get him to turn on he royals or the Kingdom of Everfall. Even so, the evil mage Lilith still took his 9 sisters and brothers one by one while trying to get him to turn against Rhen. oh wow. im quite conflicted about this one. this is my most anticipated sequel and release of 2020 and i am happy with this, but im also really let down by it. hear me out. It’s one of the few things I regret leaving behind in Washington, DC, but when darkness has fallen, dinner feels like a distant memory, and Rhen has still not returned to his chambers, I want to know what time it is. I’m no stranger to waiting in the darkness, but when I was on the streets I had my brother’s cell phone, and I’d count every minute. When the man meant to fight in the competition becomes seriously injured last minute, and is unable to fight without risking getting killed, Grey offers to take his place. However when he goes out to fight he is confronted by one of the guards from the palace who used to serve side by side with Grey. The guard cannot figure out where he knows him from, but Jake, who was traveling around Emberfall at the time recognizes Grey. Grey attempts to flee and frees the scraver Iisaak in the process, but upon one of the guards capturing Tycho Grey gives himself up so they won't harm Tycho. I really liked Lia Mara, much more than I expected. She was so genuine and I admired her tenacity. She is badass in an unexpected way. She is filled with doubt and does not have good self-esteem, but seeing her grow throughout the book, filled me with such pride.

A Heart So Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer: A Book Review A Heart So Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer: A Book Review

Although Lia Mara definitely does envy her sister, Nolla Verin, and knows that her sister can be cruel, we are constantly reminded how much she cares for and loves her sister and vice versa. I really appreciated that. It was refreshing having two sisters who are vastly different NOT hating each other. I loved seeing their love for one another, even if Nolla Verin is a horrible brat for most of the book.Tycho looks up to Grey, seeing him as a sort of big brother, and Grey is also very protective of the boy. Grey teaches Tycho how to sword fight and under his guidance he becomes a great swordsman, he also joins the guards to be like Grey. Easy," he growls. "Choices are never easy. There are good and bad options, but the most dangerous is to not make any choice at all.” A Heart so Fierce and Broken has been one of my most anticipated releases for 2020 following A Curse so Dark and Lonely, which remains one of my absolute favorite reads for all of 2019. I devoured that book, laughed and cried and fell oh so hard for every single character. Most of all the wonderfully fierce Harper. After that Harper chapter in the beginning I had hoped to see more of both sides, especially Rhen & how he fared with the PTSD that was mentioned after all that craziness, but when we never got that the story immediately fell flat.
