AirFly Pro lets you toggle between Transmission (TX) and Receiver (RX) modes. With TX mode, you can wirelessly stream audio to any wired speaker from your device. With RX mode, you can enjoy audio from any audio-out device directly into your earphones. The device has a small keyring that you can attach to your keyring. What we like about AirFly Pro The battery is rechargeable via USB Type-C and can provide up to 16+ hours battery life in a single charge (depends on usage, of course). The main button is used to turn the Airfly Pro on and off, but there is also a toggle which will set the device into either Transmit or Receive Audio mode. There’s a removable cover for the plug that includes a loop so you can attach the AirFly Pro to your keys, but be careful using it: If the cover pops off, you’ve lost this accessory. Maybe keep it in a bag instead. Transmit mode means it will send the audio from the device it’s plugged to, straight to your Bluetooth device (e.g your Bluetooth headphones/earphones). For example, if you plug it to your Nintendo Switch, you can use any Bluetooth earphones/headphones with the console. So if you have a wireless earphones or headphones that supports Bluetooth 5.0 like the new Apple Airpods Pro, Bose’s new 700, or the Beats Solo Pro I use for my daily commute, you should be good. If you only have headphones that support the older Bluetooth version, you can still use the Airfly Pro for music (and movies or games, but with a slight delay that I told you about). I wish I paid attention to this before I took my old Bose instead to fly!

AirFly Duo lets two people listen to the same movie, podcast, or music with their favorite wireless headphones or earbuds. AirFly Pro adds the ability to stream music from your iPhone to an AUX IN in a car or speaker. Setup is a snap. Just press and hold the power button on the front of this accessory. A blinking LED will tell you the AirFly Pro is ready to pair, so put your AirPods or other device into pairing mode also and the two will start communicating. You can also share audio with the Airfly Pro. For example, you can watch something together but wearing your own, different Bluetooth headphones. Or you can play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Nintendo Switch on the plane and have the sound played on your own earphones/headphones separately. Airfly Pro Review Conclusion Twelve South has included a cap for the AirFly Pro that has a small key ring on it. I love this little addition because I can add it to my keychain and always have my AirFly Pro with me wherever I go. You never know when you're going to want to connect to the audio in a car. Will we be flying without the AirFly Duo again? Probably not. Overall, the ease of the device makes it worth carrying along on every trip. It’s compact enough to store in any travel bag, easy enough to connect with a number of devices and perhaps best of all, you can say goodbye to airline-supplied headphones forever. If you travel frequently — or seldom but have other places to use the transmitter — the AirFly devices are an absolute no-brainer.

Plus, if you want to invest in an inexpensive 3.5 mm audio converter, you can connect this gizmo to any wired headphones. This means any headphones you encounter can be Bluetooth. If you’d be happy with something simpler, the original AirFly connects to just one pair of headphones and is only a receiver — it can‘t transmit. Once you have plugged it in, you will simply need to connect the Duo via Bluetooth to your wireless headphones of choice to enjoy listening to your favorite audio entertainment.

Airfly Pro And Airfly Duo? What Is The Difference Between Airfly Pro And Airfly Duo?

AirPods were clearly the inspiration for Twelve South’s designers. AirFly Pro has the rounded corners and edges of Apple’s earbuds. It’s all smooth and shiny white plastic, just like the AirPods case. However, this device falls short when used on long flights for flight movies because of its limited battery life. It will be helpful for those seeking comfort in flight with flight entertainment on shorter flights. The battery will drain much faster if you share audio with your partner's headphones. All in all, the device is a good value for money and aptly fulfills its purpose. Stare intently at the vaguely blinking lights on both devices until one or both them changes their color, blink speed, or both I've become so accustomed to things just turning off when I stop using them (taking my AirPods Pro out of my ears, for example), that I regularly forget that some things actually need to be turned off manually. AirFly Pro doesn't ever turn off unless you press the button for about four seconds. If you leave it connected to your car and don't first turn it off, it says on, waiting for your return. If you don't return for 16 hours, I'm pretty sure your juice will be gone (though I didn't test the battery's performance for 16 hours). Audio sharing with AirFly Pro is amazing. I went ahead and tried listening to audio on my Switch using one earbud from two different headphones at the same time and there wasn't even any lag between them. It was as though I was listening through a single pair.Whichever mode you are in will require you to connect to AirFly Pro via Bluetooth, which is surprisingly easy. Simply hold & press the main button to set it to pairing mode. Do the same with your favourite wireless headphones like the Bose QC35 II or Beats Solo Pro, or wireless earbuds like the Jabra Elite 75t or Beats Powerbeats Pro. They will automatically pair without having to open any app or settings on your phone. So, if you're on a plane and you and your traveling companion both have your favorite pair of wireless active noise-canceling headphones, but only one of you has an AirFly Pro, you can both still enjoy using your favorite headphones (though you both would have to watch the same movie). Did I mention that AirFly Pro has a super long battery life? Twelve South claims 16 hours. I spoke with a representative at Twelve South and was told it was tested against some of the longest non-stop flights (around 17 hours), and made it through with flying colors. You'll be able to use a lot of different types of Bluetooth headphones that will run out of battery life before the AirFly Pro does.

The second new feature that AirFly Pro has is called Receive mode. Flip the switch on the side of the AirFly Pro dongle and it becomes the receiver of the Bluetooth transmission. Pair it with your iPhone, and then plug it into an aux-in port (like the one you might find in a car), and suddenly, your phone is wirelessly connected to your car (or a rental car, or a friend's car). I'm a big fan of Bluetooth receivers in my house. I own a lot of older speakers that don't support Bluetooth. As long as you have a 3.5mm aux-in port (not the headphone port, that's aux-out), this will make your home sound system Bluetooth enabled. The Airfly Duo can connect to two sets of headphones at one time, just like the Pro, but unlike the Pro, with just a few hours of charge, the device can last for over 20 hours! However, the Duo will only play through your headphones. And that the Duo offers four more hours of enjoyment as the battery will last twenty hours instead of the sixteen that the Pro provides. Final Thoughts They are both fantastic products and if you are like the majority of consumers, you will love having one of these devices handy for travel whether you use it for an airplane TV screen, tablet, or one of the many other appliances they connect to. Receive mode means it will receive Bluetooth audio signal/data and the audio will be played on whatever 3.5mm device it’s plugged to (i.e speakers, or your car audio input, etc). There is also a tiny reset button which will reset all the pairing list to factory settings when you press & hold the button for 4 seconds. Twelve South promises 18 hours of use on a single charge, so you can count on this accessory lasting through your flight to Japan. And it works while charging, if the battery goes dead while you still need to use it. Audio receiving
