This is, apparently, a prequel to a TV show, narrated by one of the show's stars. I haven't seen the show, so my responses are from that point of view. Ronan Vibert as Ritter Longerbane, Sophie's father, Absalom Breakspear's primary political opponent, and longtime advocate of fae subjugation. When I explain The Green Bone Saga to people, I usually toss out, “The Godfather with magic,” but it’s so much more than that. A minutely constructed society, individual characters at each level of society who forge connections between the reader and the story, and rampant moral ambiguity, I absolutely love this series and it’s one of my missions in life to convince everyone to read it. Unbelievable that there will be no season 3. This is easily one of the very best fantasy series made, far more original and coherent than Prime’s other big fantasy offering, Rings of Power.

We meet Carnival Row‘s “Trows,” likely another slang term meaning troll, Kobolds, small, almost gremlin-like spritely creatures, and Centaurs who are, well, centaurs, varying from their more classic look with fur over the more humanoid parts of their body. Here are a few of which to partake if you too liked Carnival Row: The Steel Crow Saga by Paul Krueger (Random House) Other prominent magical things we encounter: the mysterious creature known as a Darkasher, which is created from the corpses of other creatures; and the Wolf’s Curse, which basically turns people into werewolves. It’s also implied that the Fae just kinda casually use magic in mundane ways. Mark Lewis Jones as Magistrate Flute, the head constable in the Burgue who urges solidarity amongst his officers and frequently butts heads with Philo over his concern for the fae's welfare. I adored the show and was excited to explore the world more. There were some interesting character insights and I enjoyed the read, but it didn't have quite the amount of detail to draw me in that I was hoping for. The world and the steam punk-like details was what made me fall for the show and this didn't really provide the same feel, although I did think the art in chapter 3 lived more up to my expectations. I still think it's worth a read for fans of the show who, like me, can't quite seem to put this world behind them. I am very heartbreaking that they won’t be a season 3 or 4 for this show. It was a really good book series. Need to end the right way. So room for improvement but not a total bust – and so with room to grow, off they went into production in November 2019.

Carnival Row has set up an incredible baseline with seasons 1&2, for many more anticipated seasons to come. It’s original, unique and will be very disappointing if this is the end of something that hasn’t even begun to scratch the surface of the shows potential. This should be blasphemy in the entertainment world. Smarten the eff up!!! I listened to this audiobook shortly after it was released in 2019 (and possibly reviewed it too; I don’t remember). I am totally baffled that it has disappeared from my Goodreads library of read books. What else has Goodreads erased from my personal data?That's before factoring in last-minute schedule changes, should one of the leading cast members test positive and no longer be allowed on the set, and the deep cleans the sets would have had to go through if a breakout occurred. My husband and I watch both season and it was amazing and new. It’s an Awesome experience about a fantasy world that you could imagine that could exist. Please gives us a season 3.
