There is nice artwork for sure, though in its reduced size it's not as grand as the film or even video would be. The story is fantastical, with Miyazaki allowing the action to unfold gently; bringing the girls (and us the audience) into the world of Totoro slowly. Asher (10yo) and Dexter (8yo) have both seen this movie and really enjoyed flipping through the book. I personally love the Cat Bus and seeing it in picture book form was fun. When two girls move to the country to be near their ailing mother, they have adventures with the wonderous forest spirits who live nearby.

This comic book interpretation of My Neighbor Totoro takes the reader through the whole story of My Neighbor Totoro (in four volumes) with the text spoken in the film. It baffles me that no matter what, the stories Hayao Miyazaki makes always enable you to emerge yourself in a new world. I think you can tell it was written after the movie but not in a bad way. I could picture each scene as the movie, but it worked.
