About this deal

Mandarin Companion specializes in graded readers—a crucial and sometimes overlooked learning resource for language learners of all levels. Das einzige, was mich etwas stört, ist die Ausrichtung auf Studenten. Da lernt man halt einige Situationen, denen man als Berufstätiger nicht ausgesetzt ist (ich kann 学院 "xueyuan" nicht mehr hören, das ist wohl das meistgebrauchte Wort in diesem Lehrbuch).

Compiled under the sponsorship of the China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (NOTCFL), and in consultation with the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) Guidelines, the New Practical Chinese Reader (NPCR) series is designed to help native English speakers easily learn Chinese. Students also will not find pinyin while learning Chinese grammar starting from the Textbook 2 and on. The book succeeds by putting business Chinese instruction in a context relevant to most people engaging in business with China in the 21st century. Readers learn contemporary vocabulary that is actually in use in China today. There are graded readers written in many languages, but in Mandarin Companion's case, graded readers are written for Chinese learners. Graded readers commonly take the form of novels and are written at a targeted difficulty level or “grade.”

The whole sequence seems off in a few places. In the workbook for instance, you need to listen to the MP3s and write the Chinese characters. Some exercises later you actually learn how to write these characters. In lesson 1 you already get bombarded with vocabulary that doesn't get explained and some if it has pinyin that you haven't even learned yet. Fourthly, it is a great choice if you are interested in Chinese culture. By all means, understanding Chinese culture will be easier and add an interesting experience when learning with a native Chinese teacher. These textbooks are essential during the journey! The New Practical Chinese Reader is a good choice for students hoping to improve Chinese character recognition.

Mandarin Companion organizes its graded content into three levels: Breakthrough, Level 1, and Level 2. This series for learning Chinese is not without some minor issues, but certainly will recommend this over Integrated Chinese as it a lot cheaper, comes with the audio. (Yes, I know both... part of language teaching). Hello! In the files above, the audio for the Book 3 Textbook is actually the audio for the Book 3 workbook. Do you have a copy of the textbook audio for book 3? thanks.Starting with HSK level 1, these textbooks gradually increase in difficulty, eventually leading to every Mandarin learner’s ultimate prize and the holy grail - HSK level 6 (which is the highest level and the closest you can get to becoming “fluent”).

Thank you sooo much, I tried to find such book for a long time. By the way, could you please upload the mp3 of NRCR 4 workbook? The Cheng & Tsui series come with accompanying workbooks, which provide a great way to reinforce all the content covered in the textbook.
