If your dog suffers from skin problems, intestinal or ear infections, these can be symptoms of an allergy. This is often caused by foods such as cereals, which are easy to avoid. But sometimes they don't: it seems impossible, but these animals descended from wolves can be allergic to meat themselves. If such a suspicion exists, it is worth trying the Anallergic of Royal Canin. Free from Meat, Grains and More Instead of meat, potatoes or rice, it contains feather meal hydrolysate and corn starch. They reach a protein content of 18% and have helpful free amino acids as well as oligopeptides. They are mixed with coconut, soya and fish oil, among others, further nutrient-rich components. Royal Canin has also added extra skin protection to improve the barrier function. All ingredients are designed for a healthy and easily digestible diet in case of allergies. Royal Canin Anallergenic: Talk to the Vet Food adverse reactions are believed to be responsible for at least 10% of skin allergy cases in dogs. For causes of skin allergy dermatitis, food allergy is ranked third after flea allergy and atopic dermatitis (airborne allergies).

Instead, food allergies are diagnosed by a food elimination trial. This means that the dog is fed a diet with a novel (new) or hydrolysed protein and starch source for a period of time, generally a minimum of 8 weeks. A hydrolysed protein is a protein that has been treated by a process called hydrolysis to break it into smaller molecules that do not react with receptors on the cells of the immune system, therefore they cannot trigger an allergic response. If the symptoms reduce or disappear on the elimination diet, a diagnosis of food allergy or intolerance can be made. To then determine what was causing the allergy, more proteins are slowly re-introduced one at a time to challenge the animal and see if they react. An alternative approach is just to continue feeding the diet used in the elimination trial for life, provided that it is complete and balanced and provides the dog with adequate nutrition. Maize starch, hydrolysed feather meal with low molecular weight [source of L-amino acids and oligopeptides], coconut oil, soya oil, minerals, lignocellulose, chicory fibres, fructo-oligosaccharides, fish oil, citric acid esterified mono- and diglycerides from palmitic and stearic acids, animal fat, marigold meal.
