Lord Hellebore arrives at Eton to fund and stage a three-part athletic tournament, which he intends his son, George, to win. The competition has three heats: swimming, running, and shooting. Lord Hellebore helps George cheat in various events, particularly the foot race, where he plans shortcuts for his son. James, noticing that George has an alternate route, follows him, using his speed to overtake him and win the race. George tries to trip James but fails. Ultimately, Andrew Carlton, another student is the winner of the tournament, which deeply disappoints Lord Hellebore. George Romero’s early zombie films – Night of the Living Dead & Dawn of the Dead mostly. But there are bits of Lord of the Rings, fairy tales and the tales of the Greek heroes. The art is so good, I noticed so many small details the artist added. A tough Scottish lass who probably loves her horse more than any person, but comes to James’s rescue just when he needs it most.

However, while training for the swimming portion of the race in the icy Thames, George Hellebore comes to torment him. He forced Bond into an underwater race with a boy from the school brass band, ensuring James' loss. When next he speaks with Merriot, James voices concerns about the rumor that the competition is rigged, which Merriot laughs at and claims that it is, as it is paid for by Hellebore's father, in Hellebore's name, and the competitions were in each of Hellebore's strongest sports. Merriot, however, reveals that he believes James could win.
