Description

Install Targeting Relay (Action): One or more INFANTRY units from your army can start to perform this action at the end of your Movement phase. Each unit from your army that starts to perform this action must be within 6" of the centre of a different Aerospace Designation marker that has not had a targeting relay installed at it (see below). The action is completed at the start of your next Command phase or at the end of the battle, whichever comes first. If this action is successfully completed, that Aerospace Designation marker is said to have had a targeting relay installed at it.’ While all weapons carried by battlesuits are just as effective fired directly into someone’s face as they are over long distance, the closer-ranged armaments benefit from shooting into close quarters. Quite a few of these guns have been upgraded in the new codex, now firing more shots than before. Commanders still have excellent output. The Cyclic Ion Blaster is still boss. Hitting and wounding on 2s is great. But none of that matters if the objective that we just cleared doesn’t have any T’au units on it.

With simple eloquence does the chanting of the Ethereal remind their comrades of their place within the Greater Good, and of how those of all castes are stronger when they stand shoulder to shoulder against adversity than when they strive alone. Units held in Strategic Reserve adhere to Kauyon, as they can spring up right where the enemy doesn’t want them after several turns spent safely off the battlefield. The empire already has a foothold in this system thanks to reciprocal trade contracts with friendly local mercantile concerns.Select 1 planet and halve its Diplomat Power (rounding up). As stone resists the onslaught of the other elements in their endless quest to wear it away, so do the T’au exhibit that same unbending resilience. The result is a nigh-supernatural fortitude that sees them shrug off even the most punishing blows. However, taking one Kroot Squad allows for a Shaper, Hounds, and Krootox squad to be taken without using Force Org slots!Tau don’t compete in the psychic nor melee phases .. so how about using mobility rather than relying on a castle (Blitzkreig 1939/41 or Normandy 1944) .. how many units can you deepstrike / infiltrate in later turns ?? how many objectives can your guns cover and deny the enemy ?? The inhabitants of this system are heavily militarised, and possessed of a volatile and aggressive temperament.Add 1 to the Military Power of each planet in this star system. But, as always, I’m going to end on a positive note. Good fortune comes and goes in 40k, and factions are seldom particularly weak for a long time. They cost 160, cannot have an invulnerable save, and are patently terrible in melee. However, they are really quite obnoxious to shift. I think you’ll find a good use for them. If Kauyon, +4 VP for Hold Half or More objectives at the end of your turn in Battle Round 3, 4, or 5. Nothing for 1 or 2.

Of course, we can get our models close enough to the objective in the movement phase and hope that we have enough firepower to clear it. This is certainly one way to do it. But here’s the problem: we miss out on the available movement in the Charge phase. Why? Because we can’t guarantee that the unit with which we charge will do the business in combat. Moreover, we have few units that can effectively tarpit an objective. T’au troops are far too fragile to sit on an objective for multiple turns, and our big Battlesuits are useless in the face of an opponent’s obsec units. Then there are the stratagems. Bork’an reminds its sister septs that time spent in the laboratory can bear bountiful fruit on the battlefield, and it live-tests powerful Experimental Weaponry on the battlefield. Terrain is playing a massive role in the new missions … even implying players should take their own “customized” sets to events Like most Tau units, Strike Teams benefit from the For the Greater Good rule, allowing them to fire overwatch for nearby units. They also have the Bonding Knife Ritual rule, which means a result of ‘6’ on a morale test passes automatically.

I know a lot of people are keen on Tau gaining some use in the assault/psychic phase. But it’s more interesting to have factions which are distinct with clear themes and strengths/weaknesses. Giving Tau dedicated assault units or psykers doesn’t really make sense fluff-wise, and would dilute the unique feel of the army somewhat. Install Targeting Relay (Action): Infantry, start at end of movement phase, be within 6″ of a different Aerospace Designation Marker. Commanders from Sa’cea are meanwhile used to fighting hard-won campaigns in difficult conditions. They know better than any other the value of key strategic terrain and their commanders can delegate control of objectives to units that wouldn’t normally be expected to hold them. In my articles over the past few weeks, I’ve discussed how Games Workshop could bring the T’au into a competitive spot in 9th edition, but I’ve also discussed some of interesting plays and abilities that we have at the moment. Granted, there isn’t much to go on, and all things considered the T’au aren’t in a great spot at the moment, but I would argue that it’s better to focus on the positives than to dwell on the negatives. The Commanders of Vior’la harness their warriors fiery temperament by embracing a highly mobile and aggressive form of warfare, taking the fight to the heart of the enemy.

The T’au Empire is a beacon of innovation in the otherwise luddite 41st Millennium, constantly developing new and tremendously powerful weapons, evolving its tactics, and bringing new worlds under its sway. We’re starting to see just how difficult it is to have virtually no play in the Fight phase in 9th edition. From Bork’an Sept’s renowned applied science divisions come the most advanced and ingenious weapon prototypes, and the finest suits of combat armour, field tested by elite contingents of Fire Caste soldiers. The codex includes full rules for all the new Sisters of Battle units, as well as updates for its existing range of models and wargear. There’s an extended Crusade rules section, plenty of point tweaks, and new rules for using prayers and hymns. The whole book is designed to provide much wider strategic variety among Adepta Sororitas armies, which has been found wanting in recent years. This in no way means your sept is bereft of choice. Each sector contains four different tenets to choose from, meaning there are a total of almost 100 different combinations on offer. They don’t have anything that can tarpit on an objective, or doing so ties up lots of their resources.” If the Kauyon Tactical Philosophy is your kind of style, Reinforced Armour will keep your big guns safe until you hit that vital late-game surge, while Fire Warriors can bait their targets into charging before beating a Rapid Retreat and gunning them down.

The Eldritch Omens box set, released in February 2022,had already dropped some brand new plastic models for the Chaos Space Marines’ Warpsmith character and Chosen unit. These joined the faction’s previous batch of updated model kits, released in and around the Shadowspear box set in 2019. If your chosen sept does not have an associated Sept Tenet above, you must instead create their Sept Tenet. You do this by either by selecting the Allied World Sept Tenet below or by selecting two tenets from the Sector lists. Due to the slower migration of ideas and technologies across the T’au Empire, when selecting your second tenet, the following rules apply: Advanced Guardian Drone, Command-link Drone, Grav-inhibitor Drone, Guardian Drone, Gun Drone, Marker Drone, Missile Drone, Pulse Accelerator Drone, Sniper Drone and Stealth DroneAssimilation Abilities: You will encounter many different types of planet over the course of your journey, so vast and diverse is the universe, and each will have Assimilation Abilities that trigger when you take over that planet. These can either help or hinder your progress in that star system, so plan your strategy carefully. BATTLESUIT models with this tenet that have a Wounds characteristic of 9 or less count as 3 models when determining control of an objective marker.
