Due to their childhood traumas the twin developed addictions: Marisa turned to alcohol and drugs. Clare turned to act out badly—dressing like her sister, and having casual sex. Brit is the wild card (she is no angel, a control freak, and everyone thinks she is the mother hen) after their mom died, putting herself in charge. But did/does she have their best interest at heart? A few of the characters were well-sketched. I liked Marisa’s portrayal the best, though it too had minor flaws. I was initially worried that she would be yet another unreliable narrator with an alcohol addiction but her character was handled fairly well by the author. Detective Richards was also quite impactful in his limited role. Something frustrating to watch and hear about is that it seems like people who lie have never watched a teenage drama movie or tv show where the main character lies to cover up the hard truth and it always ends badly. If you’re lying to someone in your life, you can almost guarantee that they will eventually figure out the truth and then at that point, it will have been far worse for you to have lied to cover up the difficult reality of the situation rather than telling it to them straight right off the bat. The Lies You Told is fairly typical of its genre in that the often unreliable narrator tells you their story leading up to the big twist at the end. These psychological thrillers for me ,are all very samey in their writing style and this book is no exception. Also, the twists were well sign posted leading me to guess quite early on thereby removing any tension from the plot.

I read almost all the stories published by the author in the past and always looking forward to seeing where she will take us next with her novels. Sadie. Sadie, Sadie, Sadie. My one question: WHO goes to work when you have a very serious issue at hand to deal with? And then to go to your “high-profile case”, again, to keep that plot line moving and tie up loose ends? Ommmmgg. Strike four. This is one very interesting Suspense tale. The heroine is one really messed up woman who is functional but has soooo many issues. The hero, if you could say this plot has a hero, likes what he sees but delving deeper may not be in his best interest. Actually, as much as I wanted a hero, there really wasn't one. This story was all about one woman's road to getting justice for her murdered twin and overcoming her awful family. The title of this book is appropriate since just about everyone in it is lying either straight out or by omission. Marisa's twin sister Clare was murdered at the age of sixteen and fourteen years later Marisa is still trying to find out who did it. Added to this she is recovering from a serious car crash, some loss of memory and alcoholism. How is the new life of Eloïse Redmond, a muggle born that has to live under the torture and violence towards her just because of the blood that run through her veins.

Although there were several different plots, the writing was so good that the story flowed very smoothly and all of them were equally interesting. There’s SO much going on in this plot that I didn’t include in the summary. There’s multiple subplots like a trial that Sadie is part of at her old legal chambers, and also the downfall of Sadie’s marriage is mentioned a lot. This IS a 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐨 𝐑𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐥𝐞 fanfict but he comes around in chapter 12. The story is very focused on Y/N but her relationship with Mattheo is additionally very important to the plot and storyline. Hurt me with the truth but never comfort me with a lie.” — Unknown 17. You can't rebuild that trust very easily.
