The Office is one of my favorite TV shows, a top fiver for me forever — I enjoyed listening to the audiobook of The Office BFFs by Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey. ⁣ Fischer and Kinsey, co-hosts of the Office Ladies podcast, are engaging storytellers, and their often hilarious escapades as best friends make this joint tale fascinating for even the most casual fan of The Office. The chapter about the “Death Bus” episode (directed by Bryan Cranston), which nearly killed the entire cast, is laugh-out-loud funny, and Kinsey sums it up appropriately: “Pie mends all things, including near carbon monoxide poisoning.” Mostly employing a dialogue format, the authors walk the line between a behind-the-scenes look at the landmark comedy and the desire to maintain the secrets they share with their friends. (That said, many readers would love to hear the R-rated “master class in 1980s Hollywood gossip” that the authors learned from James Spader.) For hardcore Office fans, Fischer provides personal insight into some of her—and the show’s—most important scenes, including her wedding and what she said to Steve Carell in their final scene together before he left the show. Kinsey discusses the fascinating mechanics of hiding her pregnancy on screen and how she and Rainn Wilson (Dwight Schrute) navigated their first make-out scene. In addition to numerous insider insights about the creation and filming of the episodes, Fischer and Kinsey reveal much more about their friendship, their decision to launch their podcast—and a media company—together, as well as the struggles of being working mothers. Fischer writes about how she had to return to the show much faster than she wanted to after the birth of her son because, “in our business, there is no paid maternity leave.” Ultimately, the authors manage to make everyone feel like they are also one of their BFFs. The following conversation is excerpted from The Office BFFs: Tales of The Office from Two Best Friends Who Were There by Jenna Fischer (who played Pam Beasley) and Angela Kinsey (who played Angela Martin).

This was really fun and made me want to watch The Office all over again but with the knowledge of what I know now from this book. With The Office being one of my all time favorite comedy TV series, The Office BFFs went straight on my tbr the minute I heard about it. I had read The Office: The Untold Story of the Greatest Sitcom on the 2000's two years ago and really enjoyed it, and I had a feeling I would like this book even more. How do the characters on The Office demonstrate self-control and teamwork? Why are these important character strengths? One character has an ongoing problem with alcohol (played for laughs), occasionally getting drunk at office functions where it's served. Another has a history of drug use and still uses marijuana, etc. References to cocaine, and it's implied that one of the characters sells illegal drugs.

This book made me so nostalgic and brought such joy to my Office-loving heart! It was so wonderful to hear first-hand accounts of working on The Office and the bond the cast and crew had. I laughed so much while listening and probably had a smile on my face the entire time.I liked The Office when it was airing live but I’ve come to love it in the past few years as a true comfort show. I know which episode it is in the first 30 seconds but that usually doesn’t stop me from rewatching or laughing like it’s one of my first 3-4 times seeing the episode. Inappropriate comments about race and gender are either ignored or met with disbelief. Occasional use of words like "bitch," "damn," "ass," "hell," etc. Stronger words are bleeped for comedic effect.
