Description

This thriller novel is so dark and tense, it’s the perfect read for anyone lounging in the sun this summer, grateful that your holiday isn’t so chaotic.”

Fast paced, tense, suspenseful and unpredictable, I loved it!' ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Caleb shoots Ronan in the leg and then Elin in her arm. She throws herself at him and pins him down. Farrah says that Caleb hit her. She got a message that a detective wanted to see her, but it was Caleb and he kidnapped her. She says Caleb/Chris was the camp leader when she and Will were on the island but she didn’t recognize him. Really????? Elin is upset. Anna, her boss, calls and Elin asks whether Hayler(from The Sanatorium) could be responsible for the crime. Her boss says no, the case was a suicide. A mix of whodunnit and psychological thriller with hints of horror, this fine debut. . . is smartly structured and often powerful.”Pearse not only creates believably fallible characters, she also vividly portrays the frigid landscape of Le Sommet buffeted by blizzards, and a chilling epilogue cries out for a sequel. Crime-fiction readers will want to keep an eye on Pearse.” Any issues with the book list you are seeing? Or is there an author or series we don’t have? Let me know! I absolutely loved it. So many threads, more red herrings than a North Sea fishing trawler, cliffhangers galore and my absolute favorite —short, snappy chapters. It’s a riveting, twisty turny read, a classic whodunnit with a killer final twist.” Hana finds Bea’s phone in Jo’s room. She goes to talk to Maya, who drops a drawing of Jo with Hana’s ex, Liam. She says that Bea knew that Jo and Liam were involved. The longer Elin stays, the more secrets she uncovers. And when someone else drowns in a diving incident, Elin begins to suspect that the old stories about the island are true.

We have the toxic Leger family. So much time was spent discussing this mysterious fire that I suspected Maya was up to something.Elin and Tom go out in a boat to investigate and find another body. But it’s not Rob – apparently he is just messy and was out snorkeling with his phone switched off. When guests at a five-star resort in the Alps disappear mid-blizzard, vacation’s over for detective Elin Warner. It’s The Shining but with a full house.” A superbly atmospheric crime debut. Deliciously creepy and clever, it’s everything you could want in a thriller. Very highly recommended!” The Sanatorium is definitely a debut novel to watch out for. What a chilling read! One of the creepiest thrillers I’ve ever read. So atmospheric, clever and compulsive. LOVED it!”

Hana just hasn’t been the same since the death of her beloved husband. While some members of her family think the trip will be a good distraction for her, others are more accepting of and patient with her grief. But as more and more of her party start dying, and a storm begins to bear down on the island, Hana must rouse herself to cooperate with Elin’s investigation while attempting to grapple with her own unresolved emotions in the face of so much new and unrelenting trauma. But there shouldn’t be anything too traumatizing in the latest case she’s caught, out at an island retreat off the South Devon coast where she lives. Never mind that her fiance Will designed the resort, or that his sister Farrah is a manager there. A young woman, seemingly inebriated, has fallen off a cliffside. CCTV shows that it was likely accidental, but the more Elin investigates, the less sure she is that it wasn’t murder. There’s something about this island that feels deeply off, a feeling that’s affirmed for her by the resort employee who originally discovered the woman’s body: Caleb agrees that his father was a murderer, but he was trying to change until Ronan encouraged him to make the bad investment. Ugh, I can’t with these explanations. Elin looks at the CCTV footage of the yoga pavilion. She watches the woman’s wrap fly over the balustrade and the woman try to reach it and fall.

Steed seems nice, but what’s with his mysterious info drop about a family member who died from a fall? Plus WHY would Farrah and Will want to be part of the re-brand of creepy Carey Island? And Farrah’s explanation for not recognizing Caleb/Chris was not believable. The longer Elin stays, the more secrets she uncovers. And when someone else drowns in a diving incident, Elin begins to suspect that there’s nothing accidental about these deaths. But why would someone target the guests at this luxury resort? Elin must find the killer—before the island’s history starts to repeat itself. Maya accuses Jo of lying. Jo says she knows Maya was spreading rumors about Seth. Hana is convinced that Jo is hiding something and asks her about the “I’m sorry” note that fell out of her bag when they arrived.
