About this deal

The story start with a field trip to a pumpkin patch--Emma who is a kindergarten teacher along with her daughter Claire goes to the school trip. As the trip is nearing to an end, a girl goes missing first and Emma being a responsible teacher starts looking for the girl, leaving her daughter behind with other teachers. As the girl was found and the crowd start leaving the premises, Emma realizes someone else also goes missing--her daughter had gone missing. Of course, Claire had hoped to be spending the day solely with her mum at the Pumpkin Patch farm and isn't at all impressed to be having to share her with other students whose parents couldn't come on the school trip. But Claire's attention is soon diverted with the promise of feeding the animals and playing on the ten foot slide and play equipment the farm have. Tantrum diverted. On this crisp October day, the class of six-year-old children are wrapped up warm in gloves and coats for their trip to a local farm. They giggle as they stroke the animals and search for the perfect Halloween pumpkin, and as I watch my daughter Claire race off with her friends, the pink ribbon in her hair bouncing, I breathe a sigh of relief. It’s been so hard since my husband died and my sweet little girl deserves to be happy. Miranda Smith knows how to pull the heartstrings while creating a tense mystery that does not disappoint. I look forward to what she writes next. The School Trip is not just a thriller about a missing child but also about facing past mistakes, learning to trust the right people and expanding one’s perspective. As a mother, I felt Sarah’s pain and anxiety when her daughter Claire goes missing. The author Miranda Smith has crafted the character of Sarah so well that readers will empathise with her and feel all the emotions she is going through.

I read this book last month, and it’s one that has still stayed with me! Besides the fact that it’s a fantastic twisty thriller, my youngest is about to embark on her first school trip the week after next! In mystery books like this, I like to play detective and try to figure out the culprit/murderer/traitor, and I was wrong! I thought it was going to be an Along Came A Spider situation, but no. Smith stumped me which is great, but maybe there could’ve been a clue or two. What sets The School Trip apart from other thrillers is the author’s focus on the theme of motherhood. The bond between a mother and child is strong, and this book portrays it beautifully. It’s not just about finding the missing child but also about a mother’s resilience and her ability to face her fears. The author also brings themes of grief and guilt into the story, adding depth to the characters. Some Days Are Dark is a gripping, suspenseful story centered around bad choices and the possibility of second chances. This story will draw you in and hold your attention to the end. The story comes with a great flow, and the end will make your jaws drop. There are also numerous twists and turns that will keep you guessing. If you are a Gone Girl fan, you will love this book.

I would like to thank #MirandaSmith, #Netgalley and #Bookouture for an ARC of #TheSchoolTrip in exchange for an honest review. As a parent, it's hard to imagine anything worse than having your child disappear and the author takes us through all of Emma's anguish and tears. Her willingness to do whatever she can to find her daughter cause the police to begin to leave her out of their case but she's willing to go against them and follow an idea that she has about who is responsible. This book was a real roller coaster ride with lots of twists and turns. The author did an interesting thing to make things even more tense for the reader -- interspersed in the story are several chapters by the kidnapper who has an attitude that is totally unhinged. Those chapters made me worry more about what the outcome would be because I could see the unnamed kidnapper as someone willing to hurt ClaireThis book was full of feeling and as a parent, I felt for Emma. I can't even imagine that stabbing pain she must have felt when she could not find her daughter. This book kept me fully invested and feeling all kinds of emotions. This book was suspenseful, emotional, gripping, and hard to put down. Whew! All across the USA, people are showing up dead. The deaths don't appear to be connected in any way until one particular death occurs and gets the Secretary of Defense's attention. He arranges for a task force to investigate. Miranda Smith is a mystery writer best known for debut novel Some Days Are Dark. The talented author also works as an information book editor for both adult and children’s works. Miranda has a deep love for natural history and has also written numerous articles on the subject. While this author is relatively new to novel writing, she has over 75 distinct to her name. This perhaps explains her storytelling prowess and the flow you will enjoy in her debut novel.
