About this deal

During an activity, the watch face displays the two measurements chosen in the activity settings at the bottom left and right. The main part of the display can be changed at any time, from all the usual pace, average pace, time, HR, distance and time of day. The buttons require a firm press to do anything, so it’s unlikely you’ll the wrong thing by accident. Running cadence is unlikely to be included as a ‘live’ metric in the near future. (Source: TomTom). Cycling cadence is shown real time. Special Features – Other bits TomTom MySports has been based on the MapMyFitness system so if you're an existing MapMyFitness user, you can log in with that account. TomTom Runner: Accessories Here’s a picture of it on my wrist. My wrists are pretty small, but it still has a notch to go for people with even smaller wrists. edit: there are small straps available now.

This device also discourages you from being sedentary with move bar alerts, and to keep your challenged, it automatically increases your daily goal if you’re meeting it regularly. The Vivofit 2’s battery life is a full year, it’s waterproof to 50 metres, and it automatically syncs to Garmin Connect, which is available on mobile and on the web. The GPS unitpretty much matches the performance of the one in my S4 Mini phone. Familiar runs around the 9 mile mark match up within a few metres, which means it’s plenty accurate enough (a marathon race using the phone was bang on 26.2 miles). Data Sync and TomTom mySports Runs, rides and gym sessions are where the Runner 2 excels then. While swimming is a workout option, the device – like all optical heart rate monitors – can’t record heart rate in water, and despite requesting such data as the length of the pool, it doesn’t provide the number of lengths you’ve completed at the end of a session. Just like the original TomTom watch, this is an entry-level device that offers more for the couch to half marathon runners, or first time marathoners, than the seasoned amateur looking to shave seconds off a personal best. TomTom Runner: Design and Build It’s a bit of a bigger box than the previous version but still contains similar goodies, as shown below.

Garmin Vivofit 2

The MIO Link optical wrist band, for example, is 10 hours. The optical Garmin 225 is about 7 hours. The Mio hasn’t got a screen and the Garmin doesn’t play music. Earlier sections touch on the ability to incorporate bike cadence and speed data. With this you have the making of a tidy little bike computer. Sure it hasn’t got the bells and whistles of the fancy cycling computers on the market but for most people those are not required. While you're running you have the option of four modes: Zone, Race, Goal and Laps. The Zone function alerts you if you're going too fast or too slow or if your heart rate goes above or below a desire level. Go too fast, too slow or get your BPM above a certain level and the watch lets you know with a little buzz.

The Spark 3 / Runner 3 does indeed contain a new GPS chip compared to the Runner 2/Spark. So further tests were definitely warranted by me on this device. Having GPS also means being able to get an accurate idea of pace, which is displayed prominently on the watch face during a run or ride – and barked into your ear when you’re wearing Bluetooth headphones. Note that for even more detailed data for your cycle session, the Runner 2 is compatible with cadence meters. If you are interested in purchasing a new device, submit your query using the form. There’s no indication of SPM (steps per minute) during a run, but afterwards on mySports, you’ll see an average for the run. Waterproof Optical HR will simply not be as accurate as a chest strap. That is true of EVERY single optical offering on a wrist watch on the market right now. There is simply too much going on with ‘motion artefacts’ and restrictions to blood flow. When retracing a route to the start it follows digital ‘breadcrumbs’ left behind from your outgoing route. ie it retraces your steps rather than going ‘as the crow flies’.

If you’re a recreational runner or a getting-serious runner (parkrunner) then the Runner 3 / Spark 3 will do very nicely, thank you very much. Generally you press it to the right to GO and do stuff. So press RIGHT and you get a list of pre-loaded sport profiles. You choose running and it asks you to wait while it finds the GPS.The 91 steps on the right probably reflects my post-breakfast, early morning activity. There’s been lots of wear and tear on my fingers and bum but little on the soles of my shoes. The Runner Cardio looks sporty, but it’s fairly low profile and lightweight at just 63g. It’s also good for indoor running and jogging, though some syncing is necessary for accuracy. Battery life is modest, at just eight to ten hours, but that’s standard for devices with power-burning GPS sensor chips. Use the corresponding TomTom MySports app to give you a complete picture of your training so you can run your best time at your next race. Once you're set up, we'd also recommend ensuring that all your mapping data is updated. Not doing so means you might find your watch starts giving some funny results before you're even out the door. The TomTom Runner is also able to pair with other secondary devices, such as a heart rate monitor, so you can make sure these are connected before you head out on your run. TomTom Runner: Performance

The new graphical training partner is all about pushing you to work harder in your running sessions, whether it’s competing against your last run or setting a precise goal for a running session. When you race against yourself, the training partner will display the current run and previous run on the screen. If you’ve set a goal to run 10km, the Runner will display progress in a percentage. I called the TomTom sales line, and they specifically told me the satellite receiver is the same as the previous iteration of the Spark. Where did you get this information?I think there are full out zoon and one close in zoom. I would imagine that having intermediate zooms would be something they will work on The Runner 2 doesn’t simply record sessions; it can act as a coach, too. As well as setting a target distance, pace or calorie burn, you can choose to exercise in a particular heart rate zone with a vibration on your wrist or in-ear prompt to let you know when you’ve strayed from your target. To end an activity, you’ll need to pause it (left) and then hold it left once more for a little to completely end it. Run Cadence The TomTom does not produce ‘turn by turn’ navigational instructions like your Satnav. Other sports devices do do that although they tend to be more specialist and more expensive. For occasional and/or holiday type use then this is fine with the TomTom. As for the battery, TomTom claims you'll get 10 hours of power, and we found that this was pretty accurate. Though for the after-dark joggers among you, turning on the Runner's night mode means the constant light is more of a drain on the battery so you won't be hitting near that number.
