Mystery Whiff Card · 4 Stank Cards · 4 Resealable Scent-barrier bags (for the Stank Cards) · 6 Cardholders · 1 Sheet of 30 Whiff Strips · Scorepad and Instructions. I love the spiced gum drops, so I’m adding these. Also, thinking about soaking cotton ball with egg nog. Maybe some sage or poultry seasoning for a turkey? Wish I could figure out the new baby doll smell 😉 It would be fun to throw in something stinky– like the a smell version of the jelly bean game – bean boozled. What stinks at Christmas? Hmm… My jars are see-through for the photograph. To prevent cheating (it happens)…You’ll probably want to conceal your items in a non-see through jar or container you can turn this game into a language activity like one reader did with her young children – talk about the smells, what it reminds them of and if they like the smell

If they didn’t know exactly what was in the jar, I gave them a point for telling me the Christmas scent it represents I’m reaching for the tissue, now. This is so touching. I am constantly amazed at how people use games and craft ideas from my little corner of the internet. It really validates what I’m doing. I hope the game does exactly what you are thinking it will. It does makes sense that smells could trigger memories. What a wonderful moment that will be, if it works. You can store the Stank Cards in the plastic bags provided so they don't leave a stink. I don't know how long the scents on the cards will last but I think if they are stored correctly they will be good to play with again and again. The game finishes when every player has smelt all of the cards. If there is a tie, the tied players take part in a rapid smell-off round where each player gets 15 seconds to name the smell of a random mystery card. The scores are then added up and the player with the highest number of points is the winner. But that is not where it ends! The winner then gets to choose one of the losing players to suffer the dreaded “Whiff of Shame”. The chosen player has to take 3 big whiffs of one of the Stanky Cards (Diaper Blowout, Extra Old Toe Cheese, Smothered in B.O. and Hot Chunky Vomit) handed over by the winner, not a pleasant experience! If you are using the app you can film their reaction on the ReekCam in slow-motion and share with your friends on social media. I’m going to use this idea with 3-4 yr olds as a language activity. No need to hide the item, just let them smell and and talk about the contents, do they know what it is? Do they like the smell? So, if you want your festive season to be filled with fun and the smells of more than just Christmas, then I can highly recommend What’s That Smell? Alternative Idea for Jars – Here’s a Great Idea from a reader as jar alternative! Use disposable coffee cups with lids! They are perfect for concealing the item and they have a tiny opening for smelling WowWee’s What’s That Smell? is a game for 2-6 players and challenges players to guess the smell on the scratch and sniff cards, using just their nostrils. Some smells can be nice, while others are outright disgusting! It is recommended for ages 14+ and game time is from 15 to 30 minutes. The best sniffer wins and get to choose the loser who has to smell of the stinky Stank Cards in The Whiff of Shame!

I'm a mom of 4, a wife, a former elementary school teacher, and volunteer field editor at Taste of Home Cooking Magazine. I believe in "Keeping it Simple, Because Who Has Time for Complicated?" Here, you'll find easy recipes, crafts, fun foods, and awesome game ideas for the whole family! whatsgoodtodo.com is a trading name of Toys and Clothes Limited which is a company registered in England and Wales with company number 04638670 thank you so much for this great idea – I will try a version of this when I visit seniors with dementia in our area – this could be a great way to trigger reminiscence – smells can be such a powerful memory trigger! (note: some lose certain smells with chemo and dementia but most don’t and many who do don’t lose all their sense of smell) Just thought I would help you out on the hot chocolate idea. The liquid would be very difficult but you could just use the hot coco powder that way you stiil get the smell without the liquid mess. For added pressure, you can time this game. Give the players a certain amount of time to smell and guess all of the scents

Guess That Smell – Christmas Game for the Whole Family

Tape paper around the jars to conceal the contents. Just to be sure, you can give the players eye masks or bandannas to cover their eyes
