Description

I also love that this book talks you through muscle relaxation. So many books focus just on deep breathing. Deep breaths are helpful but can be hard for children especially when experiencing heightened muscle tension.

The author’s ability to balance the rich character growth of the Octopus and the Sea Child with the educational techniques in using muscle relaxation as a means of controlling one’s anger and stress was truly inspiring. The simplicity of the narrative allowed the techniques and emotions the author was conveying to come through smoothly and made for a memorable reading experience between both child and parent alike. Amazing book to respectfully talk about anger. This story does a fantastic job telling the point of view of an octopus who is incredibly frustrated

Bryan Fry, an associate professor at the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Queensland, identified the octopus as a common Octopus vulgaris. Crazy octopus is not just a simple ocean adventure game, but a game of tactics, puzzle and a lot of freedom. Here, you will adventure in several themes such as ocean and city, assembling your tentacles to defeat the bosses.

These effective stress and anger management techniques are woven into this award-winning story. Your child will learn the technique as they read the story. Children learn to unwind, relax, and control anger with this fun exercise known as progressive muscle relaxation. Children relate to the angry octopus in this story as the sea child shows him how to take a deep breath, calm down, and manage his anger. These effective stress and anger management techniques for children focus awareness on various muscle groups to create a complete resting of the mind and body. Progressive muscle relaxation can be used to lower stress, decrease pain, and manage anger.

Angry Octopus is a story that teaches children how to use progressive muscle relaxation and breathing techniques to calm down, lower stress, and control anger. Angry Octopus Color Me Happy, Color Me Calm is a new coloring book that compliments this story. And then we are offered a beautiful way to work through these angry feelings - not ignore them or push them away - but work through them. The little sea child offers the octopus a way to become the "boss" of his body and his feelings, and guides him through a relaxation process to release his tension. And in the end the octopus takes control of himself and creates peace and well-being in his body once more, and he realizes that he can see more clearly and solve his problems without anger.Emotional intelligence is a skill that can be difficult to learn, but is vital to daily life. Angry Octopus: A Relaxation Story helps teach young readers how to relax through progressive muscular relaxation. I love the imagery in this story, both of the beautiful artwork and of the wonderful text. When the octopus gets angry his body gets tight, he "explodes" with a dark cloud of ink that mirrors his frustrated and confused feelings. This simple yet powerful description is a direct and visceral way of talking about the angry feelings many children experience in their daily lives. I like that the book talks about physical connections to our emotions, which I think makes a much better connection in young children's minds than just talking about hard to explain "feelings". The frustration, the helplessness the octopus feels is so moving that even I could echo his emotions when reading the story. The Angry Octopus story featured on ABC's Shark Tank, teaches children relaxation techniques for controlling anger and negative emotions. It helps kids to calm down and lower stress and anxiety levels by focusing awareness on various muscle groups to create a complete resting of the mind and body. Karlson said he’d never seen an octopus that close before and watched Netflix documentary “ My Octopus Teacher” after the incident to learn more about the cephalopods. A few reviewers have commented that this part of the book feels repetitive or that their child didn’t follow along. That’s okay! Repetition is how our children learn. For children who initially struggle to follow along, we can instead model. Adults can serve both as models and as a guiding character for co-regulation (like the mermaid character).Angry Octopus is one of four stories featured on the Indigo Ocean Dream s audiobook and is available in several formats. I like the description of the octopus getting angry and squirting out dark ink so that he can't see what is going on around him. That's a great metaphor for what it's like when you get angry. These tools are fantastic. Through years of counselling and education, I have learned this can be a great tool for anger and anxiety. It's one of many tools that can help you regain your ground again. Using this book as an education tool is a great way to teach young readers how to maintain control of themselves when their feelings get too big. Obviously, this is a book with a mission. The sea-child goes through an entire regiment of exercises the octopus can do to ease his anger, when he feels it flaring up. These are written in smooth fashion. Each step is explained with the same story telling flow and does invite readers to join in, not directly but they will want to. It is directed toward the octopus, and the illustrations of the octopus trying each one are dusted with a light sense of humor...which makes readers want to try it themselves even more.
