About this deal

Those looking for the best possible performance are not well advised with this SoC. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon gets 8 to 20% more performance out of the nominally weaker i5-1135G7, as Cinebench R15 and R20 show. Storage performance as measured by PCMark 8 proved roughly equal across the Latitude 7420 and its competitors, since they all use speedy SSDs as their boot drives.

IDC Whitepaper: “Optimizing Performance with Frequent Server Replacements for Enterprises” commissioned by Dell Technologies and Intel, March 2021. Results are based on interviews with 18 IT practitioners and decision makers at midsize and large enterprises and a web survey of 707 IT practitioners and decision makers at midsize and larger enterprises using Dell Technologies server solutions across 7 industries. See full whitepaper: https://www.delltechnologies.com/resources/en-us/asset/white-papers/products/servers/server-infrastructure-resiliency-enterprise-whitepaper.pdf Our “Design and Gaming” profile delivers optimal color temperature (6500K) at 140 cd/m2 luminance and sRGB gamma mode. Still, we’ve included other color spaces like the famous DCI-P3 standard used by movie studios, as well as the digital UHD Rec.2020 standard. Rec.2020, however, is still a thing of the future and it’s difficult for today’s displays to cover that well. We’ve also included the so-called Michael Pointer gamut, or Pointer’s gamut, which represents the colors that naturally occur around us every day. The Latitude 7420's direct competitors include other high-end business subnotebooks such as the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon G9, ThinkPad T14s, the HP EliteBook 840 Aero, and - as dGPU models - the affordable MSI Modern 14 and the ThinkPad T14 Gen2.

With Intel ® Adaptix™ Technology, prioritize your most important apps, so they open faster and perform better. Hard drive retention: Hard drive retention is not available on models with a soldered hard drive, including XPS 9315 2in1, Chromebooks or Venue tablets, except the Venue 11 Pro. Sound quality is basic for such an expensive laptop. With a mic integrated into the webcam assembly and dual stereo speakers, videoconferencing and voice calls are clear but not exceptional on the Latitude 7420. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon also offers a basic audio experience; even Dell's flagship Latitude 9410 uses a similar audio setup. The Latitude 7420 finished in about the same amount of time as the Elite Dragonfly Max, significantly ahead of the 10th Gen Core i5 Carbon. Graphics and Battery Testing: Running Time to Spare

Interestingly, the performance here is weirdly biased towards the integrated graphics, at the expense of pure computational power. Especially with the Core i7-1185G7, which is the top-of-the-line unit from the Tiger Lake lineup. Buyers can choose between a 42 Wh or 63 Wh battery. Our model was equipped with the ExpressCharge battery with four cells and 63 Wh. Fast charging is detrimental to battery life, which is why it has to be selectively activated in the Dell Power Manager. After that, the battery charges to 80% in one hour. The Latitude lasted 14 hours at 100% in the Wi-Fi test with reduced brightness to 150 cd/m², which is a very good value. Only the Ryzen ThinkPad T14s can top this figure. Dell Latitude E7440 14.1 ? The results of our Handbrake video editing trial are clustered close together, and although the Latitude 7420 tied for last place the differences were negligible. Handbrake is another tough, threaded workout that's highly CPU-dependent and scales well with cores and threads. In it, we put a stopwatch on test systems as they transcode a standard 12-minute clip of 4K video to a 1080p MP4 file. It’s a timed test, and lower results are better. The CPU and graphics are optimized for light office work. Dell's power control allows for whisper-quiet work with little waste heat or, alternatively, moderate performance. However, this 14-incher is not made for continuous performance. Anyone looking for this should look at AMD Ryzen alternatives ( ThinkPad T14s) or individual Core i7 models ( ThinkPad T14 Gen2).

Idle runtime at minimum brightness (still readable, 22 cd/m²) is over 23 hours. Here, the competition lasts just as long or longer. This runtime has little significance for practical use, which is why it is not available for all models. As a direct successor to the 14-inch Latitude 7410 from 2020, the Latitude 7420 in 2022 brings a multitude of changes both inside and out. Only the case design remains the same except for the color scheme and texture. It is an upper mid-range business subnotebook that sits between the smaller Latitude 5000 series and the flagship Latitude 9000 series. The multi-core rate falls short of our expectations, especially when you look at the smaller i5-1135G7 ( ThinkPad X1 Carbon). The Core i7 Tiger Lake in the test field performed more or less better, depending on the cooling system. The ThinkPad T14s with the Ryzen 5850U are right in front. In the single-core tests, we see the i5-1145G7 11% behind the Ryzen 7 Pro 5850U and 8% behind the ThinkPad T14's Core i7-1165G7.Dell Latitude E6430 14 HD Professional Notebook (Intel Core i7-3520M at 3.6 GHz, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 256GB USB SSD, DVD, HDMI, VGA, Windows 10 Pro) (Upgrade) We also run a custom Adobe Photoshop image-editing benchmark. Using an early 2018 release of the Creative Cloud version of Photoshop, we apply a series of 10 complex filters and effects to a standard JPEG test image, timing each operation and adding up the total. As with Handbrake, lower times are better here. The Photoshop test stresses the CPU, storage subsystem, and RAM, but it can also take advantage of most GPUs to speed up the process of applying filters, so systems with powerful graphics chips or cards may see a boost. The maximum measured brightness is 435 nits (cd/m2) in the middle of the screen and 414 nits (cd/m2) average across the surface with a maximum deviation of 9%. The Correlated Color Temperature on a white screen and at maximum brightness is 6600K (average) – ever so slightly colder than the 6500K optimum for sRGB.

It is also worth mentioning that Dell offers the Latitude 14 7420 in both Carbon and Aluminum outfits, both of which feel premium enough. The next figure shows how well the display is able to reproduce really dark parts of an image, which is essential when watching movies or playing games in low ambient light. In this test we use 100% on the CPU cores, monitoring their frequencies and chip temperature. The first column shows a computer’s reaction to a short load (2-10 seconds), the second column simulates a serious task (between 15 and 30 seconds), and the third column is a good indicator of how good the laptop is for long loads such as video rendering. Dell Latitude 14 7420’s display doesn’t use PWM for brightness adjustment at any level. This makes it safe for your eyes even after long exposure.Dell Latitude E7450 Professional Notebook E7450 Ultrabook 14-inch High Performance Notebook (Intel Dual Core i5 5300U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Camera, HDMI, WIFI) Win 10 Pro (Updated) In addition to the great display, you get decent speakers, comfortable input devices, and pretty wide I/O, which not only offers two Thunderbolt 4 connectors, but also an optional SIM card slot, a MicroSD card slot, and more. Our temperature development and power consumption results below show that the maximum power consumption of the CPU in the Dell is 50 watts ("Ultra Performance" mode). The CPU also heats up to almost 90 °C, which suggests that the 64-watt PL2 is not achievable under low temperatures. I'm also including the ThinkPad X1 Yoga, a 2-in-1 that competes with the convertible version of the Latitude 7420. Finally, since our Latitude is a clamshell laptop without a touch screen, a comparison with the 13-inch Apple MacBook Pro is also useful. Many corporate users covet Mac laptops, too. Dell Latitude 14 7420 has a Full HD IPS display, model number Innolux CHF07-140HCG (CMN1416). Its diagonal is 14″ (35.56 cm), and the resolution – 1920 х 1080. Additionally, the screen ratio is 16:9, the pixel density – 157 ppi, their pitch – 0.161 x 0.161 mm. The screen can be considered Retina when viewed from at least 56 cm (from this distance, the average human eye can’t see the individual pixels).
