Over on Warhammer Community, there’s going to be lots of great content this week, including the online Armies on Parade ceremony on Saturday the 26th. New goodies for Necromunda and the Horus Heresy will be revealed, while the Warhammer Live crew will be working on the Warcry: Sundered Fate and Warhammer Age of Sigmar Battleforce boxes on Hang Out and Paint . I’m not going to mince words, this box is…bad. It’s going to try and pull you in with the Stormdrake, and hey even the Hammer Annihilators are actually pretty good. Don’t be fooled. There’s 2 major reasons people generally like the gitz: They like the underdogs, or they like the silliness (or both!). Gitz have been seen as the underdog army basically from Age of Sigmar’s inception. Their rules have always been a bit haphazard, weaker than equivalent units and subject to a lot of randomness. This does have a certain appeal to a kind of person who didn’t really care about winning and just wanted to cause some chaos on the table. Instead of making a brewing roll, roll a dice. On a 1, the Fungus Brew immediately fails. On a 2+, double your concoction score. At the start of the charge phase, you can release this unit. If you do so, set up this unit wholly within 3" of the unit in which it is hidden and more than 3" from all enemy units. If this unit was released in your charge phase, it can attempt a charge in that phase.

Warhammer Age Of Sigmar - Gloomspite Gitz: Stampeding

Christmas is coming. We’ve already seen this year’s new Warhammer 40,000 Battleforces, and it’s time to see what’s inside the Warhammer Age of Sigmar sets. Whichever Grand Alliance you’re a fan of, there’s a box for you. Daughters of Khaine: Khainite Slaughter-Coven Improved Moon Mechanics – The bad moon isn’t going to be immediately flying off the board before you can use it anymore, and there are new ways to count your models as under its light even when they aren’t. Let us know in the comments of our Facebook Hobby Group, or our new Discord server, and make sure you enter the latest monthly giveaway for FREE today! With a new book coming out during “winter” it is impossible to say if this force will be competitive, but the box itself follows the “rule of cool” putting in some of the best models to build and paint in all of Sigmar. Unlike some other boxes released all of the models are new or resculpts. Due to the thematic unity this is a great box to get if you are thinking about getting into gitz or Age of Sigmar in general. More experienced loonboss’s will need to count how many mangler squigs they have. The value of this box for experienced gitz players goes up significantly if Mangler Squigs become conditional battleline. Nighthaunt

MATCHED PLAY

Where this box does succeed is its choice in foot troops. Both Bladegheist Revenants and Dreadscythe Harridans are the stars of the faction, and this can get you started with both of them. Many lists run somewhere around 40 of one or the other (user’s choice), but you can certainly mix them up, too. Grimghast reapers used to be the army’s golden child and have fallen off a bit since then, but for starting off they’re certainly fine. The arachnarok of the Webspinner Shaman also got 2 extra wounds, upgraded its fangs to 3 damage and now has a flat, non-degrading 10” move – this is a nice change for all of the big spiders. The warscroll spell here got a little bit worse as it’s +1 to the mortal wounds done by the target unit rather than double, but remember that doubling ability is now a command trait. Yes, you can make the Scuttleboss do 6 mortal wounds for every 6 to hit. Battleline This box is conflicting. As the only box that has a named character it can potentially lose a lot of people’s interest off the bat, as there really isn’t anything to be gained by buying multiple, or for established Nighthaunt players who may already have her. Olynder herself is fine mind you, so if you’re coming into this army fresh she’s a solid starter hero.

Obviously, some repeat SM (some flavor of Marine), Chaos (of sorts), and Xenos. However, this year there somehow isn’t a single Xenos faction included… To sum it up, if you’re looking to get into the army totally from scratch this is a perfectly fine box for laying the foundation of a bigger force. It pairs well with a vanguard box, but established players probably already have all the good stuff here. Orruk Warclans Finally there’s Chasing the Moon which requires your general to survive the battle, potentially much easier than it used to be if they’re a Galetian Champion, and to have been affected by the Light of the Bad Moon in 3 battle rounds. Battle Tactics For now, though, it is hard to know sure what the overall pricing of all the new Battleforces will be in 2022, as traditionally, Games Workshop revealed them around the middle of November (except this year and in 2018). Shootas and Stabbas return and both are improved on their baseline warscroll. Shootas in particular now come with more range and hit on a 4+ with their bows, and get an extra shot for having 10 or more models. Stabbas have their shield baked in for a base 5+ save and have lost their wound bonus in exchange for a really exciting ability to contest objectives from 9” away instead of 6”.Great as a starting point or for adding yet more Clanrats (you can never have enough) and Plague Monks to the army if you haven’t got them yet for experienced players. A really solid investment no matter which group you fall into. The previously mentioned Vanguard box or the Rat Shaped Half of the Echoes of Doom boxed set are both great to fill out the contents of this box. Stormcast Eternals
