Once again each and every commentary is a joy to listen too as the participants talk in depth about the show giving insight and information in equal measures. Audio Commentary: 'Hero' (Disc 2) – A second commentary for this episode is included with David Eick. Evolution of a Cue (SD, Disc 1, 23 minutes) – Composer Bear McCreary reveals the process on developing musical cues for the score.

There are some instances of LFE use along the way, but primarily this is simply audio that sounds crisp and clear but doesn't really provide that immersive feel that the best lossless tracks do. Battlestar Galactica' was also very much a family show…often to its detriment (a number of episodes are a little too geared toward younger viewers)…which resulted in characters who actually cared about one another, not the least of whom was Commander Adama (played by the late, great Lorne Greene), a leader not all that different than the father figure he played on the legendary 'Bonanza' TV series. Lots has been written about this series by others more eloquent than me, so it seems contrite to lavish yet more praise on what can only be described as a televisual zenith. The Blu-ray release of Battlestar Galactica accurately preserves the artistic intentions of the creators. The widescreen versions also list the episodes by name in the chapter selection option, while the full frame discs only issue a number to each episode. Taken as a whole this is a pretty comprehensive making of with plenty or detail on everything you need to know about the series from its conception through to its completion.

Members of the cast and crew talk about those walking toasters and how difficult filming often proved. Finally, the fifth keepcase in this set is the 35th Anniversary Blu-ray release of the theatrical version of the 'Battlestar Galactica' pilot episodes, which has been available on Blu-ray since 2013. The whole idea was a potential recipe for disaster, yet somehow all the stars aligned just right and Moore and Eick were in the zone. Also like the original series, the flip-side of the slicks for the 'Galactica 1980' keepcases contain a listing and synopsis for each episode and what disc they are on.

All the discs in this set go directly to their main menus after the Universal logo, and the menus feature a single piece of artwork, with 'Battlestar Galactica's showing the characters of Starbuck and Apollo, while 'Galactica 1980's menu art is more focused on the Cylons and slightly different in design. With over seventy hours of bonus material, you'll forgive me if I don't manage to get through it all, for example, nearly every episode has a commentary, no way I'm going to be able to listen to everyone and still get this out on time! Moore ( Deep Space Nine, among many things) decided when he brought Galactica back to make it as much about the politics of the 21 st century as it is about intergalactic adventure. However, I would have easily bumped up my video rating another full star if the noise wasn't so inconsistent. However, the decision was also made to dispose of actors Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict, who were really the whole reason any of us were watching 'Battlestar Galactica' to begin with.

Back in 1978, this was just a big action sequence, but in a post-9/11 world, the scenes actually work better today than they ever could back then. English, French, Italian, Spanish (Castilian), Spanish (Latin), Brazilian, and Portuguese DTS Digital Surround 2. A short but nevertheless very amusing look back over the series, with a terrific voice over incorporating a lot of the word 'frak'.

Includes Battlestar Galactica: The Original Series (Widescreen Only) and Galactica 1980: The Complete Series (Widescreen Only). While the audio here is lossless, it really isn't very dynamic, although it's primarily crisp, clear, and with no notable issues or glitches. Deleted Scenes (SD, Disc 1, 16 minutes) – Deleted scenes from episodes 'Sometimes a Great Notion,' 'The Oath,' 'Blood on the Scales. While this set has its problems and doesn't really impress with its bonus materials (the majority of which are just ported over from the earlier DVD release), the fact that Universal took the time to remaster 'Battlestar Galactica' at all is surprising, and this set gives viewers the option of watching two very different looking presentations of each of the series' episodes. It's been somewhat forgotten due to the darker (and by all accounts superior) reboot series that aired on the SyFy Channel, but going back and viewing these shows again after all this time, I was amazed at how well many of them hold up.

Universal's clunky packaging may convince some to hold out for the more compact individual seasons inevitably down the road, but 'Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series' remains a top-tier release of 2009 and easily comes highly frakkin' recommended. However, it does give a nice behind-the-scenes look at how the series was updated to widescreen for the 'next generation' of viewers. I think one of the reasons the original 'Battlestar Galactica' resonates just as much today as it did back in 1978 is because of the way the premise is set up.
