to, 'would you rather be made to eat spider stew, taste slug dumplings, chew mashed worms, or drink a snail shake? Great for introducing new concepts to kids and could be used for slightly older ones to help them build stories up.

You Choose is most definitely recommended to have on a class bookshelf for group reading and to promote children’s participation. For example, have two toys that the children have to choose between and say why they chose the one they did. It contains endless opportunities to an EAL child to learn the language and pick up different terms. You Choose written by Pippa Goodhart tackles decision making with brilliant illustrations from Nick Sharratt. I read this book to the children in my SBT1 reception class because they were learning about themselves.Collect together all sorts of small world animals (see the pets page) - include wild, safari, farm, domestic, and dragons! This book is good for young children as the pictures would spark discussion between them based on the questions throughout the book. Enjoyable crowded and colourful pictures invite children to think about and discuss the choices they might make about a variety of things, from family and friends to homes, from modes of travel to jobs. Have a look at Nikki Dyson's Flip Flap Dogs or Axel Scheffler's Flip Flap Ocean, - both published by Nosy Crow - which allow you to choose and create new and silly combinations of dog or ocean animal.

After doing her PGCE, more years ago than she’d care to mention, Juliet taught in Nursery, Reception and Year 1 classes in South London and East Sussex. Collect together all sorts of materials (egg boxes/sticks/corks/plastic cups) that can be used to be boats. I started reading this with my toddler as a silly identification book, and now we have little discussions about why he’d want that spaceship or those shoes. One spread could be used in a whole class discussion as there is lots to look at such as "Is there a job you'd like to do?there are lots of games available that involve putting together a head, body and legs in different ways to make up different outfits. Follow the children's interests - there may be a part of the book the children show a particular interest in, such as animals or hats. Rhyming words and alliteration - have fun thinking of words that rhyme with choose (lose, snooze - include nonsense words).

You could be outside and find a 'natural' doorway in a hedge/the bars of a climbing frame and do a similar thing. This book allows the children to use their imagination and think about the types of things that they would like to have in their lives. Overall this book would provide a useful tool at circle time to promote discussions amongst the class and to introduce choice to them and this then lead to onto identifying various choices that they have to make within their lives everyday whilst assigning reasons as to why they have chosen that specific choice. The children who walk could do their foot prints on the road, the children who go by car could roll a toy car dipped in paint, and the children who go by bus could find a larger vehicle with bigger wheels to make tracks with.If you had a new child in your class or were still in the process of getting to know the class then this might be quite good to spark a discussion.

I really enjoyed the choices that the reader got to make on it each page, that I was totally invested in my new life that I was choosing from each page in this book.

Homes - the book has pictures of different kinds of homes - talk with the children about the kind of home they live in. The You Choosebooks from Pippa Goodhart and Nick Sharratt are full of fun and nearly endless possibilities. It is an excellent books for demonstrating diversity and allowing children's (and adult's) imagination to develop and explore our favourite things!
