Tried Google no joy so far, but have come up with a compilation CD on the CD Universe site, which doesn't list the tracks unfortunately. I'm afraid don't know the previous history of this builiding or of the grounds on which the college now sits This part of the college has since been demolished sadly. Alan Taylor told me it was left unfinished for many years until the Holiday Fellowship took it over in 1923, but perhaps it was indeed used as a hotel at some period between those years. they were owned by a Mrs Perkins who was an italian woman who also owned the Shannon hotel next door to 71 cheriton road.

Below is Percy and Bob behind the bar, and the gathering below is to celebrate 50 years of Lord tenancy at the Bouverie. However, as you can see in the before and after, The Castle Inn was still going strong on the corner of Foord Road and St. The old inn was pulled down along with many other buildings in 1935 and rebuilt as the fine brick structure you see here. While waltzy-schmaltzy "Cruising Down the River" was a song you may have wanted to hear on more than one Sunday afternoon, it certainly didn't require multiple versions. The picture of the ossuary at St Leonard's Church reminds me of the story my father used to tell of his father, a choirboy at St Leonard's, playing football with his fellows after choir practice: down in the crypt with the skulls!

She passed away in 2002 and as her only remaining relative I had to come to Folkestone to sort out the funeral. The photo above left was taken in 1978, and the one on the right, shows the Tesco Express built on the site after demolition. Also, the only Pennypot I remember is Pennypot Estate in Hythe, named after Pennypot Farm that once stood on the site. However, that all changed after March 1947 when they were granted a wine licence, and full licence in 1949.Born 1950 and lived in Folkestone/Cheriton until 1966 joined HM Forces for 24 years, lived at 50 Hollands ave, then 16 Plimsoll ave,Creteway estate, and then 16 Tudor rd Cheriton .

This is the Castle Hotel in Saltwood, and although I can find lots of history on Saltwood Castle, unless I am in the market to rent a room in Saltwood, there is not much on the Castle Hotel.

Update: I now know the original Ship Inn building was demolished in the slum clearance of 1935, and I have a photo of it on Page 2. I have so many memories of swimming in that outdoor pool, from learning to swim there as a toddler in the early sixties to very regular outings to swim there in the through to the early 70s (I think it must have lasted into the mid seventies? Formerly a school, this building at 5 Upper Folkestone Road (Sandgate Hill)opened as the Royal Oak pub in 1865, and was in business until 1973, the landlady, a former music hall star who performed under the name of Ena Dayne, stayed on in the house until her death in 1977. Head of family was Joseph John Musgrave, wife Sarah Anne Lebutt and between 1870 and 1883 they had 6 children (between 1862 and 1870 Joseph John also had 5 children with 1st wife Grace, died in 1870).

Many Canadians were posted at nearby Shorncliffe Camp during the first World War, and this was one of their favourite locals. Hi, my grandma came from Walmer just along the coast and her daughter, my aunt and her husband lived in Folkestone until around 1991. Sorry, meant to add to my last post: One of my great-uncles was named Percival Aqua Maycock, the "Aqua" coming (allegedly) from the fact that when he was born (in 1876) Church Hill in Hythe was flooded and the doctor who delivered him arrived in a boat! However, my mother who died only recently lived all of her life in and around Folkestone and I too am still drawn to the town when I come over to England each June.
