since I learnt how to play the piano by ear (was not trained by anyone), I have been pretty clueless on how to teach him in a way that is engaging and fun!

Piano Book? - Piano Reviewer What Is the Best Beginner Piano Book? - Piano Reviewer

This is a bit frustrating for a student who recognises the work and wants to learn it all, but can’t.I always found that this method was most effective in conjunction with another, so my student was working from two books at the same time. It is always a pleasure to review her publications because they have clearly been tried and tested in practice. I’ve found your site to be really helpful and I wondered if you had a template or a suggestion as to where I could find the little animals you have here for the first lesson?

Review: Get Set! Piano - My First Piano Book - David Barton Music

I would persevere with the Easiest Way To learn the notes animal method and try these piano finger pet puppets to help with the practice. We started our own software company Clay and Kelsy Instruments in October, 2021 and are happy to be supporting the sampling community by sharing our instruments. In the UK we have a different grade/year system to American schooling so it is difficult for me to answer that. Start by asking them to play the groups of 2 black notes and 3 black notes, all the way up and down the keyboard, making sure to use the left hand for low notes and the right for high.It does a very good job of explaining concepts such as sight-reading and theory, and putting them into practice by providing good exercises to practice what the student has learned.

My First Piano Book: Tutor Book (Get Set! Piano) : Marshall

I feel it is important to be led by the level of interest from the child, sometimes really young ones are keen to have a go, but some children aren’t ready till a bit later on. This is aided by a good selection of repertoire; there is a good mix of blues, classical, pop and jazz. The material is excellent, and offers good progression through basic keyboard knowledge, sight reading and learning to play pieces. I find a practice chart inside their practice book, with the days of the week for a parent to tick off works well, with perhaps an agreed treat as a reward on completion. There’s a lot to worry about when choosing the best beginner piano book for your students, as each book contains different materials, and sometimes it may feel like your students may be missing out on vital information that might not be in the book you’ve chosen. However, in my opinion, for any serious piano teacher, it’s probably worth picking up all of these and keeping them for reference, so you can not only get perhaps another perspective on teaching the piano to beginners, but so that you can begin to put your own piano method together based on what you believe is most valuable. While there will be some who lament the lack of piano-specific technique, a strong grounding in musicianship is something to be welcomed. The tried and tested progression guides beginners from their very first lesson through to Grade 1 level.
