I am not a mother, but it was so easy to imagine and feel a mother’s love inside of me while reading this book.The emotional depth and raw vulnerability of the characters added a human touch to the suspenseful plot. A volcanic eruption is quite another, for, as the journalist who does a framing voice-over narration for Brooks’ latest puts it, when Mount Rainier popped its cork, “it was the psychological aspect, the hyperbole-fueled hysteria that had ended up killing the most people. Its not your usual missing person story and I enjoyed that, although the final twist left me questioning a few things and thinking hmmm. Sadly, I come across so many books which could have been so much better if they tell their stories and not count the number of pages they have to fit into.She blames herself for being distracted when her daughter accidentally wounded a mugger, leading to his consequential death.
