Diageo North America, a goliath in the spirits world, has released their 2023 Distillers Edition here in the United States. A treat from the Isle of Skye, this charming little gift set includes a 50ml miniature of Talisker 10 Year Old single malt, accompanied by a branded mug.

Briny and vibrant, Talisker’s moderately peated single malts make an impression as unique as their pedigree. The roots of Talisker stretch back to 1825, when Hugh MacAskill was granted a lease of Talisker House whereupon he and his brother, Kenneth, would establish a distillery five years later. Here, the smoky Isle of Skye single malt has been given a good dose of fruity sweetness from amoroso (a style of sweetened sherry) seasoned American oak casks. Only 360 bottles of this single cask whisky were produced, which spent its time maturing in a refill hogshead. The 2020 Distillers Edition lineup showcases what can happen to whisky when it goes through second maturation in a wine cask.Talisker double-matured in ex-bodega Amoroso cask wood for rich and fruity sweetness that rounds out the peaty, peppery punch of the malty regular release, to create a richly rewarding and deeperstyle of malt.
