About this deal

Long lengthy passages describing places in such detail with little facts attached that really bring you out of the story, not to mention the constant little political digs. Surely the first thing any author should know when naming characters is that it should be an easy name to say? Terry Mynott, an actor who stars in Channel 4’s The Mimic, said he was pleased Bouquet did not get away with just a fine.

The community were able to use online forums, leafleting in the streets, and CCTV to help the police track down the cat killer. Unfortunately for me, when I got the chance to sit down and read it I was, ultimately, disappointed. Lulu is convinced that natural causes was not the cause of death, but rather something more suspicious. While this was easy to read, it was a real struggle for me to get through and unfortunately I DNF'd it at about 75%.

Conrad is a wonderful and loveable cat—intelligent and fun—and not the typical sarcastic cat that stories often portray. He is as surprised and concerned as Lulu when she hears that her beloved mother in law, Emily, afflicted by Alzheimer’s and in a nursing home nearby, has died. I’m sure it will make readers long for their own canal boat, and quite possibly – if they don’t already have one – their own talking cat. The owners of some of the cats Bouquet stabbed to death were at Hove crown court on Friday to see him imprisoned for five years and three months. After visiting her mother-in-law, she is informed the next day that Emily has died suddenly, and this is put down to her advanced dementia and not questioned.

I felt like the story itself was dragged out, and I became bored in the middle, as it became repetitive.A gentle, unassuming retirement on a canal boat is exactly what former police detective Lulu Lewis is looking forward to. The Cat Who Caught a Killer is a delightful cozy mystery, made so by the entertaining conversations between Conrad the talking Calico cat and Lulú, the widowed, retired police detective.

Going into spoiler territory here as well so beware: the killer turning out to be Maria and Juan (Maria and Juan? Lulu is a retired DI with the Met and has many friends who can help her delve deeper into the people who might have had something to do with her demise. The Cat Who Caught a Killer by L T Shearer is a charming cosy crime read for fans of Richard Osman’s The Thursday Murder Club and S. Conrad assists by being able to see peoples’ auras, and being a sounding board for Lulu as she works her way through the suspects and picks away at the clues. and the, what feel like, lectures on canal life and how not to poison your cat with chocolate, mint, or lilies are a bit annoying.

The precocious feline invites himself aboard the lark and a rather endearing friendship develops between the duo.At first Lulu thinks she is imagining things especially when all Conrad will say around others is “meow” but she quickly accepts his friendship, companionship and wisdom. I guess the only thing I kind of liked in the book was Conrad the Cat, but even his "meow" at everyone they met became repetitive. Would of liked if conrad had more to do with solving the mystery, as he seemed to become a none character for the last couple chapters. So it was a nice change to have a cat openly be affectionate and kind to the human they're with, so thats something - clearly this author likes cats, which is more then can be said for other authors who have written books with cats as a key focus.
