I've connected the monitor's USB upstream port to the tower with the enclosed USB cable and the sound bar's USB cable to one of the monitor's downstream ports. With a handsome design, a solid feature set that includes a full range of ergonomic controls, and spot-on sRGB color coverage, the Dell UltraSharp 27 Monitor (U2719D) is a capable business monitor and a joy to use. There's height, tilt and pivot adjustments, but the pivot mechanism is no longer at the base, instead at the arm support, making it feels a bit more flimsy compared to the U2417H, which has the pivot mechanism at the base instead. So there’s a huge amount to like about this screen: guaranteed colour accuracy, compact design and that USB Type-C connectivity. I had hoped that activating it might increase the coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space, but in fact it only covered 68. The thickest part of the monitor is less than 2cm I believe, and the weight of the panel + the stand feels lighter than my older U2417H. The first sign of this is the tiny rectangular footprint, which is roughly the size of an A5 sheet of paper. Colors appeared uniform in the DisplayMate Color Purity and Uniformity tests, and scenes from Marvel's Antman on Blu-ray were rich in color and showed excellent image detail.

These aren’t only for cosmetic benefit: you could happily place two of these monitors side by side, perhaps in portrait mode, for an enlarged workspace.

While not designed for gaming, the U2717D's 5-millisecond pixel response did an admirable job of handing fast action in my Crysis 3 (PC) and Grand Theft Auto V ( Sony PlayStation 4 ) tests, but there was minimal screen tearing in the Crysis 3 tests. The output is really not too bad for a built in sound, but due to the rolled off bass, I still prefer a dedicated DAC + amp.The U2717D uses the same InfinityEdge (bezel-free) design as the Dell UltraSharp 24 InfinityEdge Monitor U2417H and features the same gray-and-black cabinet. However, the Acer Z271's ECO power-saving mode reduced consumption to 21 watts, and the Viewsonic XG2700-4K used only 18 watts when set to its Conserve ECO mode.
