Description

As one of the last living Giants, she represents that part of Atreus’s heritage which is something no one else can share with him. Not only does she carry with her the knowledge of her people, but she also physically carried individually carved marbles that contained the souls of the Giants. We had played 10 hours of the game before someone pointed them out to us, mainly because we were distracted by the utterly ridiculous opening act, rather than some, admittedly a bit annoying, last-gen concessions. Fast travel using the realm between realms is near instant, only taking longer if there’s dialogue that is required to finish before the mystical door appears.

At this point in his life, Atreus is trying to find out who he is and the color choices play with that theme. The yellow from the Giants is very strong and something we have used since God of War (2018) to hint at what was to come regarding his heritage. To become the God of Thunder, we partnered with The Ronin Cosplay, who has been a longtime pillar of the God of War cosplay community. From Kratos to Sigrun, Ronin has taken on some of the most complex character designs in our games and made them look absolutely incredible. The God of War Ragnarök Jötnar Edition is a premium selection of items designed with care by our team here at Santa Monica Studio to be a collector’s set worthy of our amazing fans. You’ve seen it unboxed in the video above, but we’ll also run you through its contents here. Ultimately, I think that God of War: Ragnarok is an incredible example of a sequel that invests our built-in emotions and turns that investment into a big narrative pay-off. Those who hoped that this game would deliver a satisfying conclusion to the story, worlds, and characters they previously fell in love with will not be disappointed by this game. In so many ways, Ragnarok is that rare sequel that delivers everything we expect from a truly great sequel. It expertly continues an existing story while standing tall enough on its own. There’s not much more we can ask for from a sequel than that. We wanted his look to reflect those aspects and multiple artists did work with that in mind. As the designs began to evolve and various elements began to resonate with the team our art director Rafael Grassetti did a pass and that is the final design of Thor seen in game.

For example, Atreus’ new look features a huge splash of yellow to honor his Giant heritage and connection to his mother. Angrboda, while being a Giant and living in Jötunheim, has clothing that features mostly shades of browns, teals, and grays. While her primary clothing pieces don’t have the same statement yellow piece that Atreus’ does, we still wanted to include smaller touches of the color to show her ties to the Giants and to Atreus. To celebrate our release date announcement, we’ve also revealed the brand-new God of War Ragnarök – Father and Son CG Trailer! To see a glimpse of the dangers Kratos and Atreus could find themselves up against as Ragnarök approaches, make sure you watch it in this PlayStation Blog article. As Bear McCreary’s epic score heralded the beginning of the end, the chills we experienced were a rarity in media. It reminded me of sitting in the cinema watching The Lord of The Rings: The Return of the King, absolutely in awe that something of this scale could exist. You don’t get many moments in gaming where you can honestly say you’ve never seen anything like that before. Ragnarok’s final bow is one of those moments. In fact, it’s full of them.

Smaller elements of her costume like the weaving and shawl also remain consistent in her God of War Ragnarök design. The Falcon, Bear, and Wolf Pin Set – Representing Faye, Kratos, and Atreus respectively, this pin set symbolizes our heroes’ family. As we’ve previously discussed, God of War: Ragnarok is not an open-world game. Yet, in the grand tradition of the bigger sequel, it does offer more gameplay distractions and opportunities than its predecessor did. Ragnarok not only features more side missions, more collectibles, and more world navigation sequences than 2018’s God of War, but it allows you to access so many of those activities pretty much out of the gate. Kratos has been through a lot and his design always reflects that. He cares about function more than visuals, so a lot of the decisions made on his design serve a practical purpose. Several pieces are there based on their utility in battle, for example, the pauldron with metal pieces protects his dominant arm and the bracers can be used to shield him if necessary. Yggdrasil Cloth Map – This cloth map shows each of the Nine Realms within the branches and roots of Yggdrasil.God of War Ragnarök is a direct sequel to the 2018 God of War game and sees both Kratos and his son Atreus returning. The game is set a few years after the events of the last game, where the freezing winds of Fimbulwinter have come to Midgard. We’re worked with our fantastic character artists and writers at SMS, as well as B is for Boy artist Romina Tempest, to create guides that not only give the in-depth references necessary for cosplayers, but also let us play more in the world of God of War by looking at these designs through the lens of our characters.

When it comes to visual storytelling, what aspects of Kratos’ character are most important to convey through his design and how did you do so? The Legendary Draupnir Ring – A ring from Norse Mythology, the Legendary Draupnir Ring comes in a red cloth bag. You might know Thor as the Norse God of Thunder and a son of Odin. He's also the chief enforcer of Asgard and one of the most dangerous beings in existence. He's singlehandedly responsible for almost wiping out the giants in the Nine Realms. His hammer, Mjolnir, was crafted by the dwarves Sindri and Brok. It always hits his target and channels Thor's lightning. He seeks vengeance against Kratos and Atreus due to the death of his sons, Magni and Modi. With the Norse era Kratos design now established in players’ minds, what considerations or challenges did you face with updating his look for God of War Ragnarök?At Santa Monica Studio, one our guiding phrases is “we’re fans of our fans.” Whether it’s a reaction to a trailer, a deep-dive lore video, or cosplay – knowing that there is an audience that appreciates all the details in our work motivates us to create something worthy of God of War fans. In a post-show stream following Thursday’s PlayStation Showcase, Barlog and Williams said that changing directors was usually a tradition at Sony Santa Monica and that the switch would bring a fresh perspective to Ragnarök. Bringing her expert and versatile skills to the creation of her cosplay, Kizuki has created a guide on making a wig for Angrboda, as well as tips on how she approached the other pieces of the costume, which you can see here. Thor – The Ronin Cosplay God of War Ragnarok is a testament to a developer operating at the absolute peak of its powers. It is not only one of the most singularly powerful games of the modern era, it’s a current-gen benchmark that other studios should aim to be within touching distance of.
